Jon Gomm Live at the Paradiso, March 17th!!!

Well, that's my first night in Mokum sorted!!! :D

If you've never heard of Jon, he's a percussive guitarist from Leeds who has managed to garner quite a following in the UK with relatively little mainstream support save for a tweet from the king of Twitter Stephen Fry...

I saw Jon twice in Bolton in a small pub around 2006/7 and he managed to amaze not only me, but everyone who saw him...

If you're not familiar with his work, here's a couple of tracks:

Seriously, i'm so happy about this... Going to have to get tickets pretty much as soon as i arrive, then maybe kill an hour in Rookies whilst i wait for the doors to open...

...I'm sure it won't have sold out, Right? :?

You COULD also get your ticket online and not worry about it selling out. Did that for Raul Midon on the 21st and it worked without any problems. BTW, Raul also does some weird shit with his guitar.

Cheers Dude.... I might just do that... The only issue was not knowing how much time i have to play with regarding getting to the gig, since i'll have only just arrived in town on time.

Also, thanks for the pointer regarding Raul Midon... I'd never heard of him, but his stuff sounds pretty good.... Only listened to a couple of tracks, but they've proved quite a nice edition to the lovely, sunny afternoon we're enjoying over here. 8)

...Cheers again!

Ah, I see. Tricky timing ;-) We have it easier because we should be at Centraal by 5:45pm, walk over to Voyagers to check in and then make our way down to Leidseplein. But then, we picked the date for the trip *because* of the concert ;-)

I kind of stumbled upon Raul Midon when somebody posted this video on his blog. While he does have some mess-ups while he's singing along (didn't really know the song, too stoned?), things get kinda crazy when India Arie asks "Can I get some trumpet?". See for yourself, the trumpet thing starts at 3:50. This is from North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam.

And I totally love "State of mind" and "Everybody". There are also quite a few videos on Youotube of him at Paradiso - he seems to drop by every year. But on these videos, sound quality usually sucks.

And here's Everybody @ Paradiso

And another nice one. They're totally rocking the place. Eeven though he mistakes her for Trijntje Oosterhuis, but as he says, "that's what happens when you're blind". His eyes got fried by the infrared light in an incubator right after he was born.

Whoa, Jon's rendition of Chaka Khan's "Ain't nobody" is awesome. If I was in town on the 17th, I'd totally score two visits to Paradiso this time.

I was thinking the exact same thing... Except opposite, kinda... ....If only i'd booked a couple more days i'd have tried to get tix to Raul... He's in London on the 23rd, but i doubt i'll have the funds left after 3 days in the Dam to afford something like that... Wonder if he'll ever get up Manchester way?

...Glad you liked the video...

If you're interested, here's another couple of guys worth keeping an eye on:

Lastly, because i bet i'm getting annoying now  , here's (imho) the best guitarist on the planet:

...I'm sure you already know the guy! :D

...Bloody hell, this has gone a little off topic, eh?
