Passing Medical Cannabis in Florida
Next Tuesday is election day around the US. While many states are voting for their next elected officials, Florida voters are also deciding whether or not to legalize medical marijuana. Amendment Two would allow doctors to prescribe cannabis to patients if they deemed it medically necessary. Just days before the election, supporters and critics of the amendment are both coming out in full force, trying to rock the vote.
Today, we turn to a medical marijuana advocate in Florida, Mr Robert Platshorn. He’s done a lot of work supporting Amendment Two."

it was over 60% for every demographic EXCEPT for the senior citizens.
fucking dickhead condo commando's have nothing else to do.

there should be a law if you're too fucking old you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
like they make kids wait till they're 18.
they need to do the same thing to old people.
old people need to pass a fucking senile test or something.

Hey are you some kind of "death camp" Republican?dconstrukt wrote: old people need to pass a fucking senile test or something.
I'm 73 and I voted for the Amendment 2; I donated to the cause; I wrote a letter to the editor; and I manned the phone bank. You damn well better hope that I'm around for 2016!
What was your contribution?

Yo, easy there nsfe, it's all good.
Some may not realize, but Florida is an ultra conservative state, which is driven in a large part by the +60 crowd, been this way for a long time.
If I made a list of failures, on the top would be the ridiculous requirement that 60% is needed to pass legislature (it spits in the face of democracy). Next in line would be the stoners who not only didn't vote, but those who aren't even registered. If anyone knows of this type of citizen, ask them why they haven't registered and why they aren't voting. Prepare yourselves for a plethora of bullshit stoner excuses, including this gem - I don't want to serve jury duty...
What wouldn't be on my list is finger pointing to a group who, and let's be honest, don't give a shit about cannabis. If they did, a lot more than 6 million votes would have been cast for/against the Amendment.
If a state or even a country wants to legalize, the movement should focus most of its energies on age groups under 60. I would say 50, but I passed that a few years ago, and there's still hope for some in my generation.
Let's be clear, most red states will be the last to approve MMJ measures, and as far as legalizing -
If you are a stoner and live in one of these states - why? Almost like asking someone whose home was destroyed by a tornado, for the umpteenth time...doe eyed look, says he's gonna rebuild, that's what he's gonna do...again, and again, and again... Smacks of stuck on stupid.
Want your vote to matter, move to a state that has a fighting chance to pass legislation.

LOL… notsofasteddie - i said senile test… yes.
you my friend would have passed.
But think about how many of your seniors aren't like you.
I live in a building FULL of old people… they're always miserable, grumpy, bitching and complaining.
these are the ones who voted no.
it passed over 60% to every age bracket other than seniors, so ya, i'm calling them all out.
its hysterical to listen to them bitch and moan about stupid nonsense.
95% of them shouldn't be allowed to vote let alone drive a fucking car..
ron… sorry bro… fla is awesome… if… no, when we get this legal, it'll be even more awesome…. i've got a great setup in place now so either way its all good in the hood

I've got family that live in FL, been there many times, and it ain't that awesome...but that is a matter of opinion.dconstrukt wrote:LOL… notsofasteddie - i said senile test… yes.

This isn't a matter of opinion though - basic rule of a democracy, majority rules. The US Senate made it a requirement in order for them to pass legislation, 60 votes would be needed. Something about curbing filibusters or some such BS, which it is - BS. Florida has done the same, albeit against the citizenry, but it stands - 60% of popular vote required to pass. It sickens me, regardless of the Amendment, that a majority vote did not carry the day. Floridians do not deserve the freedoms, rights, and privileges protected by the US Constitution. Time to rid America of our one and only hanging chad, more like a dingle berry. Nah, just kidding about getting rid of them.
Legal weed in Florida?
Say, how ya'll been treating the local natives, the Seminole? Florida is a lot of things, but awesome isn't a word I'd use...backwards, behind the times, racist, bigots, and the list goes on...and the majority of the people are ok with it, or else they would stop reelecting the very same people who encourage these types of behavior by their actions. Florida may be awesome to you, but perhaps you need to be awakened to the real world. Perhaps visit a few of the state prisons and ask pot smokers how awesome they think Florida is...
Just my opinion...and some facts.

Re: FL: Passing Medical Cannabis in Florida
If the initiative reached the 60-percent threshold in every demographic except older voters, then the problem is that all those folks in the younger demographic groups, who form the majority, couldn't be bothered to get their asses to the polls for a mid-term election, which is not only typical, but was virtually the entire basis for the Florida MMJ initiative this year. Here's how well it worked: Lowest voter turnout in a Florida statewide election since 1998. Yep, the young voters really stood up and took this opportunity by the horns.
The reason the initiative was on the ballot was an effort by Dems to get out the young vote for Charlie Crist. The secondary reason was to show the Florida legislature, which has been reluctant to take up the MMJ issue, that the public wants it and it has to address the issue (when it won't require 60 percent for passage because it won't be a constitutional amendment). The effort didn't work on the Crist side; maybe it will work for MMJ in the long run. Too bad young voters didn't step up and exercise their civic duty. Now, you have a GOP guv and you'll go to jail for toking when sick.

Re: FL: Passing Medical Cannabis in Florida
My parents live in Arkansas. When MMJ was on the ballot there two years ago, my father asked me, "What constitutes 'chronic pain?'" I'm convinced, of course, that he, and probably my mother, voted against it.Uncle Ron wrote: Want your vote to matter, move to a state that has a fighting chance to pass legislation.

I don't remember what I answered, maybe nothing, but I wish I had said this: "Chronic pain is what you will feel in the years to come when you realize my long-held hope of living near you in your later years, and tending to your needs as you grow nearer to death, will go unrealized as long as the laws of the state where you live remain unchanged. It is the same pain many families in states with similar laws will continue to feel as their loved ones are forced to make the same decision to remain distant from their families rather than risk prosecution and persecution. If you can live with that pain, so can I. Vote your conscience."

South Florida is not the entire state, not even 60%, or the MMJ amendment would have passed, no? To say that Florida is awesome because of a small part, is quite a reach. Think about that for more than the time it takes to smoke a joint. Speaking of which, I know what I'm smoking and the quality as well, because I grow it, how about you?
Who hates kittens, puppies, or freedoms? Since you mentioned it in the first place, perhaps you?
As for Amorica, perhaps several million or so of its ignorant inhabitants deserve some bad karma, lots of comeuppance is headed their way..sad is that the innocent as always will get caught up in the shit storm. Wait for it, Civil War v2 will unfold before your eyes in South Florida, one of the many mini ground zeros. Simply look at the cultural make up...whitey is outnumbered considerably by hola!, descendants of slaves, and the indigenous ie local natives.
Simply awesome dude... el oh el
