Another solo journey

Post by whisx »

Heya peoples! Time to write a little story about my latest 2-day haze in Amsterdam that took place between 27th-29th Oct. Apologies in advance for my wandering-off writing style and lack of detailed smoke reports.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Boarding the train on a sunny monday morning in Hannover, where I happened to be staying, it's time to get plastered again. It would be my 8th journey to 'dam, a thing that's become nearly a yearly habit. Unfortunately none of my friends managed to come along for this trek, as much as I tried to lure somebody into joining me. So, another solo trip it is, then.
Train arrives almost an hour late off the schedule, but I have another hour (and then some) to kill until I can check-in to the hotel (1500), so I walk to the approximate direction of Jordaan and the Leidse square. I see a lot of good-mooded folks wandering around and sunny weather certainly helps matters. :D
Need to find some smoking apparel, and of course, bud. I happen to walk past Grey Area and thus I enter the shop, which is pretty quiet at this time of the day. My only criteria for the weed is that it's a strong sativa, so I go for the chocolate haze for 13€. It looks awesome, so the decision is easy. I fly out of the door to buy wares from a couple of tourist shops, and stupidly buy an expensive lighter that doesn't even work, which I will find out later. But I got everything now! I stop by a silent canal near my hotel to give that chocolate haze a test run. :) I can't stress enough how much I love the sunny weather, particularly since I come from the land of ice and snow, and the weather's sucked for a long while already.
Once I knock on the hotel door on Nassaukade, I can already feel CH creeping up on my back. After the necessities, including a social encounter with the hotel receptionist, are done with, I adore my new sweet suite for a while (I've always stayed in cheap ho(s)tels when in Amsterdam, not this time), rest a little bit and then prepare for an evening walk around the quarters.
It's off to a coffeeshop which I found to be very nice during my last visit, Easy Times. Once there, I get some apparel, something to drink and 1 gram of casey jones for 10€. Proceeding to the lounge to smoke it off... wow! I take a good sized chunk and it very literally blows me away. I didn't have high expectations, but the effect is very energetic, pleasant and social too. Pure gold, just like the haze - I think to myself that this is a good start. Then I get out and... get lost. Yes, it's gotten dark and I'm a little bit unsure about my whereabouts, but I eventually relocate myself and stumble upon cs Crush. Not on my list of coffeeshops to visit, I hesitantly step in to find out that they don't have toilets, which was what I was looking for. :D It's evening and there's nobody else in here, hardly surprising because the shack looks uninviting. I buy Bubblegum for 10€ and quickly be on my way. It's back to the hotel and I proceed to die for a short while.
There's still time for another run in the night. I encounter teh well-known coffeeshop Dolphins, located almost right next to Easy Times. I buy some kind of a cheap pre-rolled joint and head downstairs to a nice chillout area I've heard about. I smoke everything I've gathered during the day, including the joint that, unsurprisingly, doesn't do me anything. I love the music choices of the place. :) The budtender chick is hot and really nice, too. But time flies, I am throughly stoned now, and I think about calling it a day. Something in me wants to visit Easy Times again, so I do. I sit down in the lounge, smoke maybe a 0.2g of Casey and get even more stoned. That's it for the day, all my lights go off.
A new day dawns and it's looking cold, cloudy and misty. My plan was to head to Sarphatipark and De Pipj, but the further away I walk, the more uninviting the idea gets because it's also quite a cold day. :( I sit down to smoke a little bit of something after which I'm changing directions, now heading to the RLD. It's lovely as always. Coffeeshop Baba is full, so I retreat. After hours and hours I'm still stoned, so I end up not visiting any coffeeshop for now. I go to some bar to fulfill my desire for belgian beers, there meet a nice couple from Liverpool England and we chat for a while. I'm continuously attempting to find a chocolate penis (don't ask) to bring to my friends, but find none, anywhere! Sorely disappointed in both the shop offerings and in myself. :D On my way back I stop at Kadinsky (the one closest to RLD) and I want to try their Trans Himalayan for 12€, so I head upstairs. This coffeeshop is kinda small and dirty looking to my taste, but it's bearable. Music's allright, so I dig out my pipe and give the hash a try. It's potent and quite nice in general, but I didn't write down any details. Baked enough, I walk back to the hotel, take a shower and sleep for a couple of hours, finally waking up refreshed and clear-headed.
Image
Off to Tertulia. I buy 0.5g of Master Kush for 9€ (?) and wander upstairs, because there's no room down anyway. The stairs almost kill me, but everything cool once it's just me and the pipe again. I smoke some more chocolate haze from Grey Area --- killer, killer stuff! Perhaps the most indicaish smoke I had on this trip is however, the Bubblegum. All the buds have been potent enough and then some, and I think I'm quite demanding in that respect. Tertulia is not really my kinda coffeeshop. It's neat, but kinda cheaply decorated, and I'm the guy who loves comfy seating areas. :D Nothing really against it either. I slowly wander off back to the hotel while taking plenty of pictures by the canals. Timer says it's about 2000. I find a supermarket, stock up and get to my hotel to find that my keycard is missing. Oh well, the receptionist happens to arrive the exactly same time as me, so he hands me a new one and the adventure continues! I love the effects of the haze and I feel amazing. How else, really?
MY - unfortunately they're closed this early.
Time to rest and head back into the night to look for fast food, which ain't always easy. I wander around for what feels like forever in that aimless, stoned state, buy some pizza and head back... I make a round around the block to smoke somewhere discreetly, before walking up the stairs to the hotel. Yes sir, high as a kite by now.
A group picture, not detailed enough, excuse me about that.
Image
Day number three and I realise I only have a few hours of pure ecstacy left until my train is leaving. OMG! I wake up slowly, check out at 1100 and wander off to Dolphins. Getting a double espresso in my attempt to wake up and it's back to downstairs lounge, which is almost full this time around. I smoke bubblegum and casey jones and, after an hour, I'm quite wrecked, and that "quite" is a serious understatement. The stairs upstairs are quite tricky when stoned and with some heavy luggage. Budtender exchanges some words with me, but I can only pick words from here and there, so I mumble something back. I bid my farewell and move towards Centraal Station. I stop at Route66 for another coffee and I smoke the bubblegum that I still had remaining. This stuff is really long-lasting! Because, as usual, a few hours later, in the train near the border, three german cops go through all my belongings with great care, but find nothing... again. This has a become a customary process. :D Only I haven't been nearly this stoned before in this situation. A little bit of hippie-looking young guy travelling solo - I suppose that's their targer group.
What more is there to add? Enjoyed it a lot, and there will be another visit.
yeah nice pics and nice report, thanks. I'm preparing for a solo trip but find myself a little apprehensive about not going with someone. I mean I know it's Mokum and I should be thankful I'm able to go, just wondering what you tell yourself so you have a good trip solo?
It helps if you're bit of an introvert such as myself. I try not to think about it. Going with friend(s) may be more fun, but when going solo you don't have to deal with anyone elses problems and bs. :) You can concentrate fully on being high and checking out sh*t that interests YOU.
Well, for me, I ask myself. "What do I want to do?" And then I answer, "whatever i want". If you wanna sleep in, sleep in. If you wanna spend an extra 20 minutes in a coffeeshop, nobody is going to stop you. Solo trips are where you can do stuff that would bore the piss out of your friends.
Did you think you'd get rid of me that easily?
Great report, whisx! Thanks for referring me over here. I enjoyed your writing style.
I'm fiercely missing AMS today. So I find myself sitting at work, reviewing some docs I need to get out next week, and have the Koeningsplein webcam up enjoying the scenery.
I had a great experience at Dolphins one time. The attractive female BTs don't take shit off of anyone at that CS. If you do not purchase something, they will kick you right out. They did not care what we purchased, but we had to purchase to stay. I liked that policy.
I look forward to reading your next trip report.
