Greens call for cannabis use

The Green Party is calling on the government to consider legalising the use of medical cannabis in Cyprus.
In an announcement on Thursday, the Greens said the use of medical cannabis is now commonplace in many European countries and US states.
“It is time that we rid ourselves of the taboos of the past and enter a new era. Other countries provide the perfect example of how medical cannabis can be successfully implemented in society.”
The greens said the government has failed on a pledge it made this year to introduce legislation for the cultivation of industrial cannabis farms on the island, which currently operate illegally.
“Unfortunately this promise seems to be yet another empty pledge by the state.”
