An MP showed his support for legalising medicinal cannabis at a campaign group’s meeting.

MP for Lewes Norman Baker spoke at a United Patients Alliance (UPA) meeting on Friday, where stories from medicinal cannabis advocates were shared.

The former drugs minister heard from people suffering from cancer, epilepsy and alcoholism who find relief by using the illegal drug at the meeting in the Linklater Pavillion in Lewes.

Clark French, of the UPA, said: “After meeting with Norman at the Home Office and his subsequent call for medical cannabis, we were very happy to have him speak at the Patient Perspectives event. We hope that more MP's will show a willingness to listen to the patients with epilepsy, cancer, MS and other serious health conditions who find that cannabis helps them.

“The UPA has made some big steps in the right direction since our launch in Brighton in July and we hope to continue our work to raise awareness of the therapeutic potential of cannabis, with Norman’s help."
