Myself and Mrs Hulldj (also known as SatNav) decided we needed a short break away so we booked Saturday night and was on the ferry to Amsterdam the following evening.
The trip across the North Sea was an uneventful one, Straight through the Rotterdam security with just a rolling mat, lighter, king slim rizzla, the small grinder I took to Spain, book of roaches, packet of cigs, two fully charged G-pens and 100 euros.
I fell asleep on the coach for and hour and awoke about 15 minutes outside Amsterdam. Perfect, slept through the traffic, the coach didnt break down and SatNav confirmed that we had come a different way to usual which seemed to save about 30 minutes travel time. Cool.
1st stop… Voyagers.. and there is a small queue forming waiting for the doors to open. The LoveBong team whisking away on a scooter to somewhere fun, another trip we miss you guys by seconds. lol.
There’s a few people wearing judges passes waiting in front of us. Finally clicking that its Cup week and hearing from the few judges that its not going well for the Expo.
The doors open and the fun begins. SatNav secures two seats near the doors on the right as you enter as I wait in the small queue to get my first Amsterdam joint since January.
Looking at the menu I decide on the Sour Power and Kosher Kush with two cokes. Danny and a young lad I’ve not seen here before are working, with Debo behind the counter running security. Quick chat as its busy … Money paid 20 -25 euro I think and back in my seat to enjoy the purchases.
It’s now around 10.30am ish I fill both the G-pens with the Kosher and satnav looks a little interested… Suprising as she hardly ever partakes.. so i show her how it works and we both take a few hits from the Pens whilst I roll up the Sour Power with a little tobacco. Cokes open and we are now enjoying the ambience and music Voyagers is providing.
10.50am ish and all that comes crashing down with a BIG Bang…. One of the poor lads I think was wearing a Judges Pass hits the deck… HARD… Straight back, like a plank of wood and the back of his head is what has made the explosive noise. OUCH!! He’s out cold.
Panic ensues around us…. which is handled very very well by the Voyagers crew, Debo pops his head over the hatch, coats and a cold can of pop under the lads head and a few worrying minutes whilst the lad comes round. Concust but talking he is assisted out by the pals he was with. Very well handled by the crew at Voyagers.
Well that was exciting, WTF was he smoking?? lol. I hope he’s ok and the week long headache didnt spoil his holiday too much.
After the kerfuffle had settled down we packed up our bits and headed out in the late morning sunshine through the RedLight. SatNav had never been in the MJ Museum so 18 euro later we are wandering around with the cool audio guide unit thing scanning away at the exhibits on display and listening to the information about them. Looking at the trees growing for a little while and we move on to grab a tram to Leidesplein lighting up the Sour Power I made earlier we head for Dam Square and the 1,2 or 5 tram.
The trams have made life easier for tourists, a big sticker with ticket prices on in hours. Not that we needed help…. I scan my OV chip card thing and SatNav gets a ticket from the driver. Nicely stoned from the Kosher we enjoy our speedy rattling ride around town and get off the tram and head for Rookies. Not before scanning our tickets off the Tram..
I like Rookies, Good coffee, the staff are friendly, massive seating area and some Rookies Special… I know its powerplant cash crop etc its never real strong, but always a nice bud or two. It’s also the first coffeeshop I visited when we rented out the Rookies Apartment directly opposite… they also sold alcohol way back then. Nostalgic for me and the Rookies Special hit the spot nicely. Fired up the G-Pens and rolled a big joint of the special. SatNav realised that she was in very little pain from her illness and i think she took a little liking to the little vape I brought for her.
Stayed for about an hour before deciding on a slow walk to the Museum Quarter.
The sun is still shining down. It’s not too cold, nor too hot. Just right… We see some outdoor cafe type places overlooking the ice skating rink that has been set up and we order hot chocolates and a waffle.. They were lush. Spent a little while here people watching, chatting and hitting on the G-Pens (refilled with the Kosher) before a nice walk to the Rijksmuseum.
35 euros each!!!!!! That’ll hit my smoking fund so its out with the credit card…..
This place is HUGE and to be fair I was bored after an hour or so… there is too much here to take in. I’m dragging my feet and SatNav is starting to lagg so we find an exit and disappear into the sunshine. Forgetting to go to the toilets before we leave I am coerced into going back to … Rookies. Thats fine by me… they sell weed!!
More coffees and their Northern Lights. A nice example of an old skool strain and a decent sized dense green bud for my 10 euro. We stay for about an hour enjoying the music, company and smokes.
Its soon time to leave, Toilets…. then back on the tram, scanned my OV chip card thing… , Ooo nice. just over 20 euro. Looks like I won’t have to top up before our January trip.
We are soon back on the bus and heading ferrybound back to Hull with enough change left to get a couple of hotdogs and drinks before lights out.
Thoughts…
My last two smoking trips this summer were in Spain. One early Summer and one late September. Here is my personal opinion regarding both experiences.
The freedom Amsterdam still gives has to win over the Spanish scene. I feel so much more comfortable in Amsterdam. In my head it is the more legal, less of a penalty if caught safer option.
I am a member of a fantastic association in Spain. It is great that you can smoke some excellent quality strains that have been well grown inside the clubs four walls, the clubhouse is cool, comfortable and everyone is welcoming…. but that relaxed feeling of freedom like you get in Amsterdam is gone as soon as you set foot in the Spanish street.
Think of it like this….. I go to Amsterdam to enjoy the smoking package.
SatNav can go to Spain and enjoy the sunshine but its nice that I can easily get sorted without venturing into dodgy back alleys.
Kinda makes sense to me…. Thanks for reading.

I forgot to mention..... UK security... DOGS DOGS DOGS!!!! lol.
I never bring anything back but it doesn't take long to see some youngsters sweating and twitching near the back of the queue when they see the dog.
Hope all in ACD land have a festive holiday and prosperous new year.

Yeah Stan... Bless him... the doors had only been open about half an hour and Voyagers was quite full. Funny now but at the time quite concerning... he went down really really hard and could have been a lot worse than it was. The lad walked away with a little help but I don't know how he was later.gapie wrote:lol a judge got a whitey lol
Hopefully he is ok and I'm sure it will be a funny story his mates can tell for years to come.
