Creamy Lions Christmas - Dec 26th-29th 2014

Post by Bliss Receptor »

It's Boxing day morning, quarter past four, and I'm not sure how long I've been awake or how much sleep I've had. My mate is coming for me and Mrs Bliss at 5:15 to take us to the airport, our first trip back to Amsterdam together since 2003, my first visit. I use my waiting hour wisely...

Blue Cheese, Vanilla Kush Bubble Hash and some G13 Haze tincture to help with the flight.
Image

We get to the airport around 6ish, it's busy, but in no time at all (or at least it felt that way) we're ready for boarding.

Goodbye England

By 9:45 Dutch time, we're are strolling out of Centraal Station in the morning sunshine with hours to kill before check in at 2pm. First stop is Utopia.
Served by a tall English guy with a beard.
Girl Scout Cookies (16e) - Pricey, I know but absolutely amazing stuff. Rock hard nugs, tastes of fried onions and sherbet. 9/10
Phul (14e) - Nice Indica with a fuely taste in the background. Nice, but not amazing. 7.5/ 10
Amnesia Cream (13e) - Creamy lions! I've struck gold early on. 9/10

After a coffee we stroll up the canals to Sibirie. I like this shop and so did Mrs Bliss. Nice laid back atmosphere and in a great location. We still near the front door at a large table whilst people around us are scribbling notes or filling in journals, me included.

Image

Image

CBD Red Angel (12.50e) - I wasn't impressed, maybe I was expecting too much from this strain? Little or no taste, didn't have any noticeable effect. 5/10

At around 12pm we land in La Grotte and get a window seat near the front door. We order two English breakfasts. I tuck into my Amnesia cream whilst we wait - wowsers! Food arrives quickly but we have a Sam Special by mistake. Mrs Bliss spots the huge pancake and takes it as a happy accident.
Washed down with some Phul and GSC, all is good with the world...

Image

2pm. Check in at the apartment on Raadhuisstraat facing the Wester Kerk. Two doors away from Albert Hijn. Handy!

Extra creamy

View from the apartment window (Queue for Anne Franks Huis round the block!)

After dropping the bags off and a bit of general faffing we plan our route to the Market at Waterlooplein to see if it's open. Denied. Nothing but the odd tumbleweed blowing through. We walk past Bluebird but it's shut. Gulp. We pass by Kadinsky, so I nip in to enquire about the royal Cream. Sold out so I ask the lady if I can have a look at the Brown Sugar. I like what I see and smell.
Brown Sugar (13.50) - Creamy Lions and hits you like a wet fish across the face. Really pliable and sticky when warmed in your hands. 9/ 10

Brown Sugar (Kadinsky)
Image

Image

We walk past Grey Area and the queue is tiny so I seize my opportunity.

Image

Kosher Kush (16e) - Really knocked out with this. Taste, smell effect all hit the spot. 9/ 10
Rolex OG (16e) - Even better than the Kosher Kush. Tastes like Wham Bars and Cola Cubes. Favourite flower smoke of the trip just ahead of GSC from Utopia. 9.5/ 10

Paradox closed.

We head to Mr K's instead. Mrs Bliss is a little bit disapointed that most of the antiques/ junk has gone after watching an old youtube video of the shop in it's previous incarnation, Sanementereng. To be fair I think she's just glad it's still standing. 8)
We sit upstairs, people playing chess and old guy penning his manuscript? Nice atmosphere and a comfy couch. I bought a gram of 'something' OG (can't remember) after not being impressed with the look of the Iceolators. The weed was nice and I would buy from here again, but expensive at 16e.

ImageImage

Image

Down to Johnnyplein for some food. Burger from Burgermeester. Highly recommended. I think the burgers start at around 8e.

Image

After tea I nip over the road to Johnny.
Image

OG Diesel (10e) - Great value. Tastes fuely and has that grapefruit flavour too. Nice hit with a bit of a thump to it. The budtender meticulously stripped all stems and wimpy looking buds away and presented me with the best of the bunch. 7.5/ 10

OG Diesel (Johnny)
Image

Now for some culture...
We head to the back of Centraal station and get the free ferry across the Ij to the EYE cinema. Insane building reminiscent of an iceberg. We make it in good time to watch the film, 20,000 Days On Earth starring Nick Cave. Well worth a watch if you're a fan. Definitely visit EYE cinema if you get the chance too.
I think we both nearly catch pneumonia on the ferry back over, wind cuts through you like a sword on that river. Shiver.

We plan on winding down the evening in De Kuil (420 Café) but it's packed out when we get there so just a quick fly and buy.
NY Diesel (13e) - I liked this but no more than the OG Diesel from Johnny. I think I prefer the stonier hit from Johnny's OG Diesel, but maybe De Kuil's has it over taste? 7.5/ 10

NY Diesel (De Kuil/ 420 Cafe)

On the way back to the hotel I call in at Utopia and get some Champagne Haze for the morning and Silver Kush Ice for a nightcap (sorry, no pics). Love the Champagne Haze, tastes bubbly. Silver Kush Ice was OK only.

Day Two to follow...

Nice report bliss. Thoroughly enjoyable. I'm interested in your diesel notes, always been a fave and it's hard to find a good one out there it seems? I'm out in March so will Deffo be trying the one from Johnny.

Peace

I can't decide between Johnny's OG Diesel or NY Diesel from De Kuil. The OG is a bit straggly and spongy, not the best looking, but tastes great and packs a punch. The NY is much better in terms of quality, hard, tight buds, but doesn't have as much fuel taste as the OG, more on the Grapefruit side and not the same stoney afterkick the OG has. The OG is also 3e cheaper than the NY.

Seems there are many of us on here in search of that Diesel of yesteryear. Around 2005/ 2006 we used to buy it from Nes and Tweede Kamer regularly, both examples were amazing.

Day Two

We leave the aprtment and head for Mrs Bliss' new favourite shop, an Aladdin's cave of vintage clothes half way down the Singel - it's not open when we get there...

Utopia is about 10 doors down so it would be rude not to... I wait at the counter as the tall budtender advises some young Italians how best to enjoy their space cakes without ending up in the canal. They look slightly unsettled by his advice...

Image

Girl Scout Cookies (16e) - Repeat purchase.
Image

Amnesia Cream (13e) - Repeat purchase.
Image

A quick coffee then off to La Grotte for some breakfast.
Image

At around 1pm we do some gift shopping at &K on Harlaamerstraat and return to Episode, the vintage clothes shop from earlier, now open.
Image

Image

Image

Whilst strolling around we pass Biba. I've never been in this shop before and don't really know much about it. I knew it was due to close in a few days time so I got a quick photo on my way past. Fake politics closes another coffeeshop. :(

Image

Image

We stop by at Tweede Kamer for an hour or so - I love this shop. Me and my mate used to go here every day on previous visits for it's nice atmosphere, often good music and back then, NY Diesel. I've heard mixed reviews about this place but I've always found it to be a welcoming and friendly shop.

Noor 2000 (16e) - Creamy lions! Best hash I've had in many moons. Turns to goo after seconds in between your fingers. I found the effect quite intense in a good way. Felt like I had an ocean in my head, my body the waterfall, my feet the river. I nearly cooked myself on the radiator under our table after smoking this. Noorgeous! 9.5/10
Thanks for the heads up Marok21!

This afternoon we have planned to visit Foam Gallery on keizersgracht to see an exhibition.
We wait in a queue at the gallery for 45 minutes, or so I'm told, I could have sworn it was longer, or shorter. I'm feeling nicely smashed at this point...
We finally get into the exhibition. I try not to bump into anyone and find a seat were I can safely park up and view the photographs without wobbling too much.

Image

Image

At around 5pm we leave Foam gallery. Bound northwards we reach Betty Too.

Image

I had no memory of the shop from my last visit and when I got inside I was none the wiser, nothing was jogged and it was as if it was my first visit. The only thing that was familier was the tall female budtender whom I recognised from my previous visit. I ask to see the Maroc Select (5g for 35e) but she said she was waiting for more to come. :?

I opt for Chem Dog Cream. I think it was 20e? Either way, it was pants, don't bother. Just tasted and felt like skuff to me, not iceolator. Dissapointed. I had some great Mohan Ram Kush and Jbel Tidgine hash from here in October and both of them were great so I won't be too put off by this poor purchase. 4/10

Quick fly and buy's on the way back to the apartment.

Grey Area
Rolex OG (16e) - Repeat purchase. Wham bars and Cola Cubes. Yummy.

Rolex OG (Grey Area)
Image

Skywalker OG (16e) - Wanted this for it's sedative effects witha sweet taste to boot. Not as nice as the Rolex or Kosher, but still happy enough. 8/10

Utopia
Amnesia Creamy lions! - Repeat purchase!

Amnesia Cream (Utopia)

Back at the apartment I make myself a nice selection of J's for the road. Me and Mrs Bliss head back out and make our way to the Melkweg. We're watching the David Bowie Is? documentary. We make our way into the attic of the Melkweg were there is a small and cosy cinema, the beams of the roof cutting through the room like knives. I sit there on another planet and enjoy the documentary - Bowietastic.

Image

Image

After the film we head over to De Klos for some of their magical ribs. It's busy so we get a take out and fly back to the apartment. Mrs Bliss is impressed - best ribs ever!

Image

Image

1e Hulp is a stones throw away from the apartment and doesn't close for another hour, perfect for a night cap. We set off.
Amnesia Haze Iceolator (28e) - Overpriced for what it is, not very tasty but quite strong. 6.5/ 10
SFV Iceolator (28e) - Boo. Waste of money. Similar to the Chem Dog Cream from Betty Too but more expensive, I would call this skuff not Iceolator. 3.5/10

Amnesia Haze Iceolator (1e Hulp)

Mrs Bliss falls in love with a very stoned white and ginger cat and I tuck into some Noor 2000 from Tweede Kamer. m m mmm.

Back to the apartment for a solo smokathon.

Thanks for the pic. I think I'll be trying both.

I'll be looking for that vintage shop too. Always like to bring my wife something back and she love vintage dresses. Have to see what I can find.
