Trip 3 - 17 Strains. 1 Whitey. 1 Rash. 3 Cuts & An Epic Time
Re: Trip 3 - 17 Strains. 1 Whitey. 1 Rash. 3 Cuts & An Epic
Amsterdam in general is an expensive city.kingbee wrote:£160 is a good price (for the UK), but Northern Lights is also an old strain, which a lot of people consider a boring smoke nowadays.
Consider that in Spain, I was recently getting ounces of cristally Bubblegum, grown in full organics, for only 3E a gram (33g for 100E), which is only £62 an ounce, and it makes your NL seem expensive in comparison.
Or how about the £1 a gram that I pay for top-quality Moroccan hash while over there from friends!
Amsterdam coffeeshops are often such a rip off, but because people pay the prices, then they continue to charge them...and continue to increase them...

I was on the NL last night & there's nothing boring about it!! Only the Shoreline, Mango Haze & L.A Kush could match it on my trip. Each to their own though... It just ticks all the boxes for me for everything I'd want from weed.
Heard a lot about the cannabis clubs in Spain. At those prices is it easy for tourists to partake or do you need a 'med card'?

It's also about comparing apples with apples, so to speak, and not with pears, as an ounce of NL for £160 in the Netherlands is not too difficult to find, as that is nearly 220 Euros, which makes it 7.83 Euros a gram.
If you visit most alright coffeeshops outside Amsterdam, you will find older strains like NL for that price, as well as others like WW and Jack Herer, etc, whereas you will find it very difficult to find high-end strains like Tangie, Dr Grinspoon, etc. outside of the Dam, and the prices for these "designer" strains (of which NL is not anymore, not for 15-20 years now) is considerably more.
Even in the Dam you can get good deals on older strains like SSH as well, which is newer than NL (it has NL as part of its genetics), like 8.70E for SSH from Coffeeshop Central at the moment, which works out at £178 per ounce in Pounds, and there are even cheaper and better deals in the Dam if you look, especially with 5g-purchase discounts (and you're buying 28g at a time on the ounce from your UK dealer, not grams, eighths, quarters, etc.).
However, NL (and especially well-grown NL) is still good, especially at night time for chilling out. I've grown NL#1, NL#2, NL#5 and Nirvana NL, and my favourite is NL#2, which is 75% Hindu Kush and 25% wild Thai...nice and relaxing
About the Spanish clubs, you have to have Spanish residency in most places nowadays, since they messed it up last summer in Barcelona dragging all the tourists in off the Ramblas, etc. It is still possible to contact the Barcelona club owners and pay for a membership (only a few clubs still do this now), but the amount they want keeps going up. Like last summer it was about 10 Euros per person, then in Autumn 20-30 Euros, then in winter about 50 Euros, and on top of that you pay subscription fees.
However, that's for tourists and if you live in Spain like I did and have residency, then you can join clubs for 10-20 Euros admin fee, then about 10 Euros a month, and the herb costs between 5-8 Euros a gram; as it keeps going up. Only 18 months ago it was 3.50-6 Euro a gram (this is not Barcelona, but another Spanish city), and I think Barcelona has always had slightly higher prices than elsewhere, but also has a better range of high-end strains, whereas outside Barca it's all Critical this or Critical that, and the quality is mid to high, but rarely outstanding like Shoreline in the Dam, etc
Those prices are from clubs as well, which are supposed to be not-for-profit organisations, but which are really just a front for dealing, and if you go on the black market in Spain, the price is 1-3 Euros per gram! E.g. city centre 3 Euros from a mate, 2 Euros outside the city in the outskirts and what matey pays, then down to 1 Euro a gram out in rural areas!
The price on the black market in the Netherlands is about half the coffeeshops as well, if you know people, and especially outside the Dam.
Regarding medical use, the clubs usually give a discount to medical users, if they can supply medical documentation, but it's not a real medical card situation like in the States. Probably if you have MS or some other serious affliction, then they Spanish government might issue them with medical cannabis or Sativex, etc, but this is not the case for most medical users.
Thanks for the info.. An interesting read about the situation in Spain which I guess a lot of UK people like me aren't too aware of.
Regarding NL in comparison to newer strains. I always think back to an episode of Entourage where Turtle is hanging for his aurora borealis and he finds Vince's secret stash. His love for it makes me smile! I just don't see the newer strains IMPROVING on a classic like NL. Girl Scout Cookies was good over there. Same with the Cookies Kush (Cannabis Cup winner), but better than NL. No way! Like you say though, it can be like comparing apples
Cheers One High... And yes, Enemy Of The State is certainly a new favourite.

Re: Trip 3 - 17 Strains. 1 Whitey. 1 Rash. 3 Cuts & An Epic
He's not sure of the particular variety of NL that it is, just that it's from a 10 year old mother plant. His own stash is cured so well it literally crumbles in your hand!kingbee wrote:You're welcome about the info, and do you know which type of NL you've been getting off your mate?
I remember Sensi NL back in the days of 1999 was crazy strong! -I've heard the parents have since changed and it's not the same though.
Orange bud is another "classic" strain, one of the first to enter the Dutch scene as clones imported from Cali about 30 years ago, one of the strains which started modern cannabis in the Dam, brought to Holland by Sam the Skunkman, also the breeder of Skunk#1.
There is an amazing pheno of Orange Bud called Aeric'77 Orange Bud, which has existed and been passed around in clone form since 1977! People still have that clone in the States, and the breeder Chimera sells (sold?) a cross of it, but I don't think it was ever on the Dutch scene?!
Another good feature of it, along with the awesome orange taste and smell, is the fact that it still produces well under 30W per square foot of light, as it wasn't bred under intense amounts of HPS like the Dutch did throughout the 80s and more so in the 90s, meaning the resultant strains "needed" more light to produce decent yields, as over many generations the plants adapted to Dutch grow rooms (with no mixed spectrum, just loads of intense 600W HPS)
Hoping the Orange Bud turns out good, no reason why it shouldn't and it already has a lovely orangey citrus aroma in the drying stage. Nice to know the heritage behind the strain. Thanks
Already booked a return trip for June in an apartment so looking forward to cooking my own food & hitting the bong rather than so many joints this time.
