A bit of culture!!!
A bit of culture!!!
Ok so me and a buddy are spending the Easter weekend in dam (4-6 april) he wants to do a couple of cultural things. One on Saturday and one on Sunday.
I'm going along with this as I've never done the culture thing in dam.
I was thinking albertcup market and the floating flower market on the sat, and maybe a museum on the Sunday(don't know which one)
Any ideas???
Also any suggestions on good restaurants in de pijp area for dinner?

Re: A bit of culture!!!
think the museum are shut sunday,{most of holland closes on sunday,expect CS and bars,a lot of top end restaurants also shut}
Re: A bit of culture!!!
As for the restaurants try de Wasserette. When it comes to museums in dam I'm always divided cause rembrandts house and couple more of them are more rip-off than prices in greenhouse. You go in, 10 mins, you walk out...10-15 e paid. RAI and Nemo are cool but idk whether any of them open on sundays mate.OffieBoss wrote:Ok so me and a buddy are spending the Easter weekend in dam (4-6 april) he wants to do a couple of cultural things. Albert Cuyp market on saturday is really nice if you want to experience dutch culture.
You will start to feel like a local after 5 mins of being there.
Keep in mind, that its a local area, the locals get annoyed when they see a tourist blazing a fatty at 11am on a crowded market. That's why you have a magic, mystical place called Katsu!

Re: A bit of culture!!!
Theres easter concerts all over,Last year on 420 went to the passion an opera at the concert hall. The Rijks museum is good for a little history of holland. Canal ride takes you all around the city not bad for afternoon. hope you have fun.
Re: A bit of culture!!!
the flower market ,, will take all but 3 min to see, lol just imagine how many times you walked past it lol
Re: A bit of culture!!!
Matty- how u doin bud? Had a stroll passed the market many times on the way to the little bush doctor and 3 min seems about right but my man is a landscape gardener so I envisage this could take a little longer with him!!!(therefore it can be claimed we would be taking in some culture)
Macky- do u know if there are any open air concerts over the Easter weekend?
Maybe in vondel or the park in de pijp?
Gapie- yeah I'm usually a bit to interested in the stone to take in the culture
Backindam- I'm careful of smoking in public and I really hate walking and smoking, I'm a smoke and then wonder type. Katsu was on top of the agenda as its the closest to the apartment and close to the market
Papi- what kind of food do wasserette do?
Madmaxx- is the market open on Sunday's?

Re: A bit of culture!!!
I went there for breakfast which was great by the way, and cheap. And you can eat some proper dinner as well. It's always busy but you can grab a table no problemo. And it's near Katsu and Club Media.OffieBoss wrote:Papi- what kind of food do wasserette do?
I'm gonna give you a link so you can check out some specifics about the food.

If your mate is a landscaper why don't you take him out to the http://www.keukenhof.nl/en/ that would impress him more than a floating flower market or take him to the https://www.floraholland.com/en/about-f ... r-auction/
As for museums try the http://tassenmuseum.nl/en/ it is very interesting the http://www.opsolder.nl/ our church in the attic is a gem of a museum right in the red light district

Re: A bit of culture!!!
The Rijksmuseum is huge and could take all day if you really wanted to see everything thoroughly. I prefer the Van Gogh museum. It's smaller and, to me, more to the point and interesting....and I really didn't enjoy art history in school. The zoo is cool too. You can really get close to a lot of the animals as it's "intimate" due to them not being allowed to rebuild much of the zoo due to historic preservation. It's a short tram ride away from Centraal Station and there's a CS nearby...https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/Ballonnetje.html. I happen to be there over the weekend too and will be roaming the sights.

I'm a gardener and the keukenhof would be an awesome sight to see. Also you could try the Hortus Botanicus they have many cool plants, butterfly house and the worlds oldest container plant, not bonsai, a cycad over 600 years old.
I don't take drugs, I am Drugs.
Re: A bit of culture!!!
Cheers for the ideas guys,
The keukenhof is probably too much of an interruption to our(my) smoking time.
Wasserette looks nice, there's too much nice looking food in de pijp!!! The butcher, Lombards etc.....
Is the hortus botanic us open on sundays??
Check the trip report too hear about the culture (smoke, hash for me, grass for the gardener) in Amsterdam!!!
