In terms of smoke, I don't really rate it. The worst hash I ever bought in A'dam was from here, crap Nepal, and that kept me away a long time. Apart from that: mostly so-so hash and weed. The one smoke that was memorable was a sour diesel I bought because I liked the look and smell of it, rejecting the budtender's recommendation. This is the one place I would always take recommendations with a cellar of salt.

But the last time I was there, it was because it was early, and there's not much choice any more. I'm not going to sit on a bench outside Central, and I don't like the Harlemmerstraat coffeeshops. Resin and Utopia, of course, have fallen foul of the kiddielaw. And at that time of day 1e Hulp is quite wonderful – comfortable, which is good when you're a bit tired, with loads of space to spread out and recover, and none of the groupies are likely to be around. I was given a free packet of screens, by the way, so I don't want to slag off the budtenders. But they do seem to push whatever the shop needs to sell.

And a cat goes a long way when it comes to creating atmosphere. At least there's guaranteed to be someone to talk to who makes sense.
