Live travelogue with real daily expenses

Post by king solomon »

Ok guys on this travelogue I'm going to try and show how much a trip to Amsterdam actually will cost you or give you a rough estimate anyway, I'm actually on day 2 now but I'll give a quick recap on yesterday first

Day 1

Got 7.25am easyjet flight from southend ( £60 return ) didn't have to pay cab fare as my brother in law drove me there. Smoked a quick spliff outside the airport then went and checked in. Once inside I went into wh smiths to stock up on my lucozades because for the life of me I don't know why they don't sell them out there because they would make a killing on them lol. Anyway I bought 6 bottles of lucozade and travel adapter and that cost me £17 I think. Boarded flight about 7.05am so we had to wait for a while before we took off. Reached Amsterdam at 9am local time, checked out then I see these massive que's to go to arrivals. Took about 30mins to finally get out into the station but I didn't mind because they left leaflets about explaining the reason why and it was because customs workers haven't had a wage rise in 3 years so they were striking. Once out into the station I bought my ticket into central 5.60euros. I reached Amsterdam central about 10.30am and knew it was to early to check in so thought I would go for a little walk and smoke somewhere, I don't know if it's me but the coffee shop scene seems like it's dying a slow death, took me about and hour before I got to a half decent coffee shop ( greenhouse in the red light district) usually I wouldn't go in there as I think it's a tourist trap but thought fuck it I need a spliff. As I've walked in there I've noticed a Puerto Rican looking black guy coming in the same time as me and after racking my brain I've realized it's the dj from Cyprus hill, I'm not a big fan of them but I do like a few tunes of theirs so it was nice to see him. I go to counter to read the menu and realize the reason I stopped coming to green house in the first place, the cheapest "name brand" weed was 15euros. After looking and smelling a few I decided on 1g Bruce banner og 18euro and 1g king Hassan hash. Went to the bar to buy a coke and the lady brought me one over from the draft thing and anyone who knows will know that's basically 90% water and 10% coke lol, so I asked her if they have a bottle of coke she told me that was all they had so after about 5mins me saying I'm not going to buy that watered down coke and her saying I have to we agreed that I could exchange it for a tropical looza, that was 2.50euro. I sat down and rolled up a spliff with the Bruce banner og and let me tell u it was shit 3/10, very faint taste and hardly no buzz. It was now about 11.45 so I built a spliff for the road using the rest of the Bruce banner and some of that king Hassan. as I was leaving b-real who is the main person in cypress hill walked in and seemed very approachable so I thought I'd have a little pic with him then realized my battery was dead on my phone, not to worry I'll charge it when I check in. Got to the hotel about 12.15pm to check in but my room wasn't ready yet. So I paid for my stay which was 360euros for a single room for 4nights, left my bags there and went back out to waste a couple hours. After leaving the hotel I realized my battery was still dead on my phone so I was pissed. It's one thing traveling solo but a whole other thing doing without technology!! Lol so I wasn't happy ha ha. So I went to kfc to have a bit of lunch and that came to 12euro. But without a phone to text and Facebook people I got kind of bored after about 10mins of being in there so strait after eating I thought I'd take a slow walk to grey area and then go to barneys uptown for a milkshake because I know grey area is just a buy and fly. Got to grey area about 12.45pm and it was already quite full. There was also some new bud tenders who I haven't seen before. I bought 1.4g of Casey jones 20euros and 1g of perfect pink 16euros both of them looked lovely. Left there then went to barneys uptown for my banana milkshake and to smoke a couple of spliffs while I wait for my room to be ready, luckily enough when I got there the window seats were empty so I could people watch for while and not get to bored lol. Got the milkshake 5.20euros and smoked the king Hassan spliff I built at greenhouse. Now this wasn't a bad hash 6/10 and completely overpowered the Bruce banner it was smoked with. It's now 1.30 and I've still got 1hour to kill while I wait for my room so I build a Casey jones spliff, one thing about grey area is that although it's quite pricy in there 9 times out of 10 the weed there is top notch. Casey jones 8/10. Smoked that and paid for my drink then went back to the hotel to see if my room was ready which it was. Went upto my room and first thing I did was put my phone on charge lol. It felt like a lifetime them couple hours without it! Ha ha. While I was waiting for it to charge I built up a spliff of that perfect pink. I thought I'd lay back and smoke that for about 15mins while my phone charges a little. Fast forward 4 hours lol. After waking up about 6pm still fully clothed with half a perfect pink spliff in the ashtray and a throat like an Arab sandal I needed a drink, I know I've got the lucozades but I needed a water not something fizzy. Plus I needed to go buy some toiletries from Etos so I built another Casey jones spliff went and had a quick wash and freshen up then went back out. I was also hungry again now so went to this bar/diner on the corner near central station and had half a rotisserie chicken jacket potato and corn on the cob with a bottle of water and a Heineken 23.50euros. It was quite nice as I had an outside table and the weather was still really hot so I stayed there for about an hour. So it was getting on for about 8pm now so I went to voyagers which was just round the corner and as soon as I got there I noticed the change in decor they now had. Now they had a closed in smoking section which I didn't like. I bought 1g of banana tangie 12.50euros and 1g of don tangie it think it was called 13euros and a coke 2euros. Smoked the banana one first and wasn't that impressed. It was ok but nothing special 5/10 then I had the don tangie. That was much better 7/10 had a nice flavor to it. Started to think about going back to the hotel about 9.45 so first went to etos to get my toiletries that came to 8euros (toothpaste, deodorant and shower gel) then to the sweet store on the Damrak got me little munchies and a couple of drinks 16euros I also needed to get a grinder and rizla for the hotel and got them from babas souvenir shop 7.45euros, went back to the hotel. Watched a couple episodes of bojack horsemen then the weed munchies really hit me so lucky enough there's a burger bar right round the corner from me that was 15euros and that is the end of day 1. I hope that gives u a rough estimate about how much money u may need if you are going to be traveling to Amsterdam

Ps wrote all this on a iPhone hence the gramma for full stops and paragraphs are shit lol sorry

950 in 1.5 days? I'm sure it can be done, but it's a ridiculous amount.

You'd pretty much have to smoke ridiculous amounts of expensive stuff (which, like many things, follows the law of diminishing returns), eat really fancy three times a day, and spend a good amount of time with the rent-a-girls ;-)

Do you have to count the airfare, ground transport and the whatnot before landing in AMS :?: Well I'm screwed.
There must have been a door there in the wall when I came in.

I was able to distinguish between overall expenses (travel/hotel) and daily expenses (food/drink/smoke).
So let me see if I can break this down. Follow the bouncing stoner.... :)
Airfare - £60 goes towards overall expenses.
Lucozade - Elective spending, doesn't count.
Adapter - cost unknown, perhaps £3.00. goes towards overall expenses.
Train ticket to Centraal - 5.60 Euro. goes towards overall expenses.
Room - 360 Euro. goes towards overall expenses.
The remaining expenditures are food, drink, and smoke, which are discretionary. This is what the daily spending is based on, not the above.
Hope this settles a few feathers. ;)

I was stoned when I broke it all down, so I had to double check. Ok, whew.
One could break down the hotel cost per day, however one normally doesn't pay hotel cost on a daily basis unless changing hotels on a daily basis.
When one looks at daily spending habits, it can be from 0.00 to '000's, just depends on ones taste. One could go to expensive shops their entire time in Amsterdam and end up spending thousands of euros, or one could do it on the cheap and perhaps spend less than 50 Euro per day, and still have a lovely time.
I don't like crawling to coffee shops every time I visit Mokum, but it seems that's the thing most people do. I'm happy with visiting just one shop during my entire stay, as long as this shop has proper gear. Drifting from shop to shop isn't my idea of a fun time, but if it happens to be for you, keep this in mind - one doesn't have to spend money in every shop. This is what I call discretionary spending as well. Cheers.

I can see where your coming from Ron.
And yes everyone's trip will be different.
And you can break it down. But you still have to spend all the broken down parts to make a whole trip..
An expense is an expense and the total of a trip is the sum of all expenditures.
Discretionary or not. It cost what you paid for the flights, hotel,
bought, smoked etc.
