Live travelogue with real daily expenses
Re: Live travelogue with real daily expenses
I would take the entire cost of the trip, airfare-hotel-parking-food-drinks-souvenirs-stuff over the period of time and divide by the number of days to get an average of what a trip might cost, but this doesn't answer the question, how much money am I going to need to cover daily expenses now that the airfare and hotel have been bought.
€50 to €100 a day should cover most itineraries, I would guess.

There must have been a door there in the wall when I came in.
Re: Live travelogue with real daily expenses
One could add up all expenses and divide by the number of days, but that's an overall total and not daily spending.
Want to know how much to bring? Just do the following, and don't divide by number of days, you'll just look like a nob.
Airfare, hotel, and transfers. = These are one-time fees, paid in advance. Breaking down the cost to a daily expenditure is pointless. Ex. Do you pay airfare daily? Hotel daily? No, so don't break these down to per diem expense.
Food, smoke, entertainment, etc... is the daily discretionary spending. This is the amount to figure out, not the above which is already known.
Ex. Say you are a happy go lucky stoners who likes a spliff in the morning, something in the middle, then after lunch, then sometime in the afternoon, then an after dinner smoke, a mid evening smoke, and finally a night cap smoke. That's about seven occasions to smoke, at roughly 1.5 grams a spliff, which is 10.5 grams. Factor in a rough average of 12 Euros per gram, one would require about 120-130 Euros per day in gear. Food is a tough one, so many choices, so I'll wing some averages. Breakfast is roughly 8 Euros; lunch about 15 Euros; dinner about 25 Euros = 48-50 Euros per day on food.
So far, you've spent roughly 160-180 Euros per day on food and smoke. This, and the rest, is really up to you, the discretionary stoner.
How much do I spend per day? I figured my spending habits have my daily expenditure at roughly 60-70 Euros. A considerable amount less than the above, mainly because I don't shop at the most expensive places, or the big reason - "I'm on holiday and don't give a fuck how much it cost."

Happy Times in Mokum.

UR is right about the lodging, flight, and travel expenses, they are known ahead of time and not relevant here as they vary so much according to where you travel from and where you stay.
Everyone knows how much weed and hash costs on average and how much they usually smoke, everyone also knows roughly how much food costs, it obviously varies greatly depending on where and what you choose to eat.
Therefore, the amount of money people need a day varies so much that IMO the entire discussion is a waste of time.

Everyone's different. Everyone experience will be different.
For me these days it's all about having a good time and enjoying what you have, regardless of what you have not.
Enjoy your time, do what you can with what you have and enjoy life.
Have a good weekend chaps.

A good reason to get out of Amsterdam and explore some of the provincial towns if you ask me. The Netherlands is not a cheap country but at least the other cities aren't full of shops that are trying to grab as much money from stoned sucker tourists as they can.
I have had top weed at great prices around the country especially in Leeuwarden and Alkmaar but if you don't want to go so far away from town then Haarlem is a great city with a decent selection of coffeeshops. It's not just the weed, once your away from Amsterdam hotels, restaurants and bars are all cheaper to.
Having said that I do love Amsterdam and will continue to visit whenever I can, it's just so much fun. You just need to use a little sense with budgetary matters. Buy your weed out of centrum and you will find some top quality product at cheaper prices, try De Pijp then head back into town for the night life.
Did the op make it more than 500m from central station?
Happy travels
