'lovely loud flavours, white grapes and citrus sharp top notes with a hazey herbal undertone.' - beautiful mate, you need to re-write some of these menus !!

Cheers guys much appreciated. Day 4 update.

Day 4

Slow morning. Only a few hours sleep and I'm up. Finally hung over from smoking with a head that feels full of cotton wool and heavy weights.

I realise I have no skins, so I resolve to take a tolerance break between here and Barney's uptown where I'm headed for breakfast.

It had to be a short break as I've got a quarter ounce to get through before I leave tonight :)

I get sat down with an Americano and roll my wake and bake. My hangover has not yet improved - only one thing for it.

Silver bubble. Grey Area €13
Much better than green places unity cup entry. More candy notes and a lovely hashy quality to the smoke which adds an extra experiential layer. I've not come across this pheno before. Or at least not had her 'done well'.

There's still room for improvement though. It could be more bubblegum for my taste. The finishing is beautiful as I've come to expect - probably the nicest cured and flushed weed of the trip from Grey Area and it's been a very high bar this time around. impressive stuff indeed.

I'm struggling to judge the high. I've smoked the full gram and just feel normal. Oh dear - I doubt that's a reflection on the silver bubble's strength.

Close. Very close.
8.1

By the time a stone sets in, I've rolled the Highrise into a doob and packed a mighty bowl.

The silver bubble stone offsets the coffee buzz nicely and I'm more lively now but still nice and chilled.

Highrise - De Graal - €12
Distinctly different to the super Highrise. Side by side they looked similar in the trays but the smell and taste are distinct.

The accrid astringent chemical edge is gone, this is softer and smoother - though in taste not finish, actually this is slightly harsher than its super sister. Odd; as texturally it's much drier and has a lovely sticky between the fingers crunch.

There are apple and melon notes in this one, the top end is more fruit than sugar and citrus. There's a hint of marshmallow candy over the familiar haze base. Lovely. Couldn't pick between the two if I were forced. They're both good in their own right.

It's good in the mighty too. Just as tasty with all the same flavours apparent. Maybe even slightly tastier, there's some of the sourness from her sister.
8.0

I roll the contents of a couple of straggling baggies into a salad and head off. I don't want to stray too far and don't have a tram pass for today so I wander south down towards Spui.

A bit of shopping for a gift for mrs OHMF. Who wouldn't want a magnetic cow with a wobbly head and some stamps? Dutch stamps. Full sets apparently.

The BT at New Times is kind enough to let me take the booth at the very back without buying a bag. I plan to camp here a while.

I still have a gram of G13 from Het Ballonetje, lemon skunk and Hindu Kush from Katsu. I probably could make that last - we'll see what happens.

The un identified doob is good. No idea what's in it but it's lovely and smooth. An hour goes by easily. I'm thinking traditional last stop of the bluebird. We'll see. It's kinda cosy here.

New Times is another morrocan owned establishment. Small and clean with comfy seating and an Arabic inspired interior. There's always plenty of fresh air in here as the shop front is always open when I've been. At the back here though it's still cosy with my jumper on and dark enough to melt in.

After the past few days of chat it's a nice contrast to stfu and just be quiet.

I listen, watch and smoke. Today that's what I do.

My only criticism of CS New Times is the Europop. Sorry my European brethren; it's largely bloody awful. Especially when pan pipes are involved.

The wake n bake settles in nicely.
We'll have a G13 vape bowl ACD eh? I'm largely sat here talking to you lot now :) Pretty damn content in my own little bubble.

I can see the whole shop from here, and the framed view of the street outside. Time passes.

The G13 is amazing in the vape as expected - there's definitely something about this set of terpenes that makes them work particularly well when imbibed this way.

Ripe red grapefruit haze middle with a darker and sour dry hash undertone. Lime and lemon in the very top notes. Delightful.

Think I'll vape the whole bag and have break from smoking a while.

More time passes.
Rosier still.

Not wanting to buy more weed at the moment I elect to visit 420 friendly establishments that have an associated lounge or bar, that way they'll never know if I bought weed there or not. Kadinsky cafe is a good example.

Zoutsteeg just off Damrak is a prime people watching spot. With a coffee and the mighty I tuck into the Hindu Kush in the vape.

Hindu Kush - Katsu - €iwantosay14buthavenoclue

This could be the wettest, shortest bag I've even bought anywhere. Ever. I've had better bags off the lads who deliver round our way. I get barely three vape bowls out of it, and that's ground as finely as is possible when the fucker still has roots.

The nose is interesting from the bag, a purple smelling candy marshmallow top end overpowers the earthy kush which I'm happy with. Unbelievably - the taste transfers too (when Vaped). This could have been really nice with another three weeks care.

No bueno Katsu. Wet. Tasty but wet. No not sticky. Wet.
It said *new* on the menu.
No shit.
It actually tastes pretty good but no fucking way am I burning that. Very fruity though.

Did I mention itv was short too? Like very short. Like .3 or .4 short. Someone must be mistaken and it sure ain't me. I've ground one or two grams in my time

Fail.0

I still have a few hours left.

One of the things I love about Bluebird is the open window at the front, elevated from the street below you're able to be part of the fabric of Amsterdam, that beautiful sweet smell emanating out onto the street - so enticing to those who want to, so frustrating for those that can't, so familiar and so welcome for those that dare.

You're able to contribute to that lovely aroma with an atypical and cosy dose of anonymity due to the vantage point. Truly my favourite people watching spot in the city.

A touch loud perhaps, and it's often loud trance so if that's not your thing you're fucked. It's not quite my thing either too but it definitely adds to the mind bending atmosphere for some. I still maintain that the smoke room here is host to the most shroomers of any city centre coffeeshops. I've witnessed many a trance too far in this shop.

I buy a bag of chemdog, order a mint tea and a cheese tosti and get the window seat immediately despite it being packed. Winning.

Chemdog - bluebird
Like cheese x candy cake with a hint of haze. Dry floral fruity flavours, subtle and creamy.

Lovely flush. I expect nothing less from this stalwart of the scene.
It's as good in the vape. Hashy and sweet. Yum. It reminds me of Ceres Hilton, Shoreline etc all musk and deep fruit rather than sharp citrus.

Great textures, you know what I'm talking about by now. The elongated sativa like nugget makes 3 vape bowls and a fattie when ground.
Solid.
8.0

An hour later - no toastie :D
I smile at the lady behind the counter - will she catch on?
Nope.
I give her chance to finish the coffee she's making.
'Did you forget my toastie?' *big grin*.
Hahaha ok ok.
'Bloody stoners'.

It's nice to watch the sun go down over Amsterdam one last time. Coming here only ever makes me want to come back. I'm more than a bit sad to be going home. I roll two final fatties.

Lemon skunk - Katsu - €fuckknows
This is the last thing i smoke in the Bluebird.

It's vaguely minty and sharp , subtly fruity so lemony is the closest word I could come up with to describe the top notes too. She's no super lemon haze though. Expect skunk. Lots of skunk. Like dirty drain overpowered by dank pond scum funk. Filthy.

It has a similar bad finish to the other flowers from Katsu too. Not as bad to be fair - it just passes when ground. Makes a decent doob and a vape bowl.

Giving the bag it's dues; it burns even and white despite looking mishandled. Beat up looks is pretty bad for a pre bagged deal really. I expect them to be pristine. Unfairly probably.

Difficult to rate this one, it Looks like pants, terrible texture, smells good tastes good. Bit pricey (probably).
6.5? Fuck knows. You've let me down a bit Katsu. I do enjoy the joint to be fair.

Time to leave Amsterdam. Boo.
I collect my bags from the Bulldog and head to the station

G13 - Het Ballonetje - €dunnodelueksnugshelpmeoutman

Ahhh G13 - you trusty companion you. Fail safe with your fruity hashy loveliness. You save the day as a final farewell at Centraal station looking back at the city and it's twinkling lights so full of so much more to see and do.

I've reviewed loads of weed in the past four days. I'm writing this tired and stood waiting for the plane gate to open. Weary after having my bag ripped apart at customs because of the schmell.

Suffice to say Het Ballonetjes G13 is superb. Up there with the best.
8.0, 8.1 even. Buy some.

Doing some rough maths it looks like I bought approx 40 grams at an average price around €13 per gram.
My top 5 purchases in no particular order.

Silver bubble - grey area
Lemon bubble - voyagers
Grape ape - boreongens
Blue amnesia - Betty too
Fallen angel - Mr K

Commendations for excellence to everything that scored 8 and above.
G13 and shoreline from Het Ballonetje only just missed being top 5. Gorilla glue, green crack and strawberry fire alien from Eerste Hulp could have been contenders with just another week or so's cure.

Het Ballonetje and Mr K were my favourite new shops. Honourable mention to paradox for so graciously hosting a large bunch of tourists.

Overall I think the quality was fantastic this trip. Only 2 bags out of 40 disappointed me with regards to quality of finish. That's pretty good going as I reckon I've got reasonably discerning tastes.

Thanks again to all readers and commenters - I really do appreciate the encouragement.

Finally - much love to all my new friends - keep blazing and stay amazing. Till next time amigos :)

Oh I nearly forgot - the now customary final review and piccie.

This lump of fine hashish used to be two. A gram(ish) of amnesia block and a gram(ish) of Kush Ice were merged during 'transportation'.
I now call them 'the schmell'.

They are my favourite of the purchases made in the Dam this time - not because they're the best. But because their existence encompass and represent the very reason I continue to travel to the place that binds us all together dear reader:

The freedom to choose in the face of the oppression of our personal choices and a big fat fucking middle finger to 'the man'.

I reckon that Boreongens AM bloc could well be some of the best hash in town right now.

Deleuksnugs16 pressed a gram and a half of this stuff with a 50% yield giving him 0.7/0.8g of Rosin.
Factoring in the fact that small amount of contaminants are extracted in the Rosin process, that still means that the AM bloc has to be getting on for 30-40% THC by weight. Perhaps more.

At €11 p/ gram that's way beyond a bargain.

What a trip.

That's probably 100% right DedsOne. The wetness of the product would account for a lack of mass once ground.
