Jheronimus Bosch Exhibition

Post by spidergawd »

Jheronimus Bosch Exhibition. http://www.bosch500.nl/en/the-event

Not to be missed. I think the last major show of his paintings and there aren't many of them around, was in 2001. I saw it in Rotterdam and queued in the cold for a very long time to get in. Ticket in advance this time. :D

's-Hertogenbosch, or Den Bosch at is known is one of the most magical towns you can visit, so for the exhibition to be there is a bonus. If you go, stay a few days

One small thing Den Bosch is in North Brabant, not sure about the Weedpass thing there as I haven't been since before it came in. :!:

I read about this and thought it was time to visit Brabant, despite the wietpas. Of course I'll be coming supplied from elsewhere in NL, as I don't expect the good citizens of Den Bosch to break the law. Though one never knows how seriously people take things.

Yea kept having to relax my buddy about the tobacco thing in shops last week. "It's the law man, so just ignore it , discreetly"

Recommended the exhibition to my son Spider ! He's gonna pop down at some stage for a gander.

It'll definitely be worth it Mike, Kate. Need to get a ticket online in advance though as it's expected to be very popular. It's a shame though that because of it the Noordbrabants museums permanent collection wont be accessible. They have a first class collection of Breughel, Van Eycke, Jordaans to name a few of the Dutch painters of that period. But hey if you want to make a cultural round trip you could do worse than side tripping to the Hoge Veluwe national park to visit the Kroller Muller Museum. Loads of Van Gogh and also plenty of contemporary work. A brilliant place to visit with a very wide collection, and the best sculpture park anywhere :D. http://krollermuller.nl/visit

I've got a ticket for first week in March - didn't have a lot of choices of slots though - if you want to go, book a ticket now before its too late!!

Whats the score with Wietpass then - can I go in a coffeeshop and smoke (ie no wietpass, no purchase), or am I not allowed in at all (no wietpass, no entry)?

Hi Mr I, have you been yet, and did you get into any Coffeeshops? :D

Edit. Just seen your post in "How Long Until", so you aint there yet. Let me know how you get on, I might do a quick trip over myself this coming week just for the exhibition.

Let us know how you get on. I'll be over at some point, and it's easy enough as a day trip from Mokum. It would be nice to have a civilised smoke whilst there, though it would be quite Dutch to happily take over €50 for rail tickets and exhibition, and then tell foreigners to go elsewhere to pursue their secret vices.

I'm going on Thursday, and will let you know how I get on!

There's a really good BBC series on the renaissance, presented by Waldemar Januscak, and the last part is tomorrow at 8pm UK time, BBC 4. Its all about Jheronimus himself (the other episodes have been about Flanders, Rome and Venice) - hoping I can see that in the Netherlands.

Thanks I'm going to watch that, get in the zone.

Well, just checking the website and this is indeed a popular exhibition. Wednesday the 9th is the only day this month with any time slots so thats when it'll have to be for me.
Also there will be other 15th & 16th C work from the museums permamnent collection so expect a treat.

Yes - I thought I did pretty well just missing out 2 z's and getting the other letters right! Sorry Waldemar - I guess you are used to people spelling your name wrong!

@spidergawd - looks like you will get there before me, so let me know how you get on - I'm planning to try Chip'n'Dale which looks like the closest coffeeshop to the museum.

Just watched it earlier, well excited now :D. I'm going over tomorrow afternoon, staying in eindhoven and spending Wednesday in Den Bosch seeing the exhibition at 3pm so I can do some tourist stuff around it and then coming back 21.50. 8)
