Good strains for beginners

Hi Guys, as some of you may have seen I'm heading off to Dam in a few weeks. I'm not a regular smoker of weed, do it every now and then. Was just wondering what strains are good for beginners? And how much should I smoke for a good high.
Every so often when I smoke weed I go really light headed and a bit dizzy and feel really sick, this doesn't happen every time just some of the time, this is usually after ive smoked half a joint or a full joint. Is this because I'm smoking to much to quick? And any tips on how to avoid feeling this way as it ruins my high. Ive never actually been sick off of weed just a feeling of like im going to be sick which lasts from 10 - 20 minutes

.
Thanks
Rob

Forgot to mention my girlfriend who I'm going with has never smoked weed before (she does smoke tobacco) and was wondering what the best strain would be.
Thanks

I'd say: Smoke the best you can find, but dose it correctly, take a few puffs of the joint, be patient and observe what's happening. The feeling you're getting is exactly what you think it is. Chill, smoke at your own pace, maybe don't go crazy on indica's for the first smoke.

Hi Robn
Have a great time in the Dam and let us know how you get along, we like to hear back about people's adventures.
It's a shame weed makes you nauseous - and somewhat surprising to me as it's known to be a powerful anti-emetic (good for stopping nausea).
It's one of the reasons cancer patients find it therapeutic - as an antidote to the sickness caused by chemotherapy.
I wonder if you're mixing it with tobacco and are not a regular tobacco smoker? If so - that could well be the reason you feel ill when smoking. Of course - everyone is different and I could be totally wrong. Perhaps try rolling a small pure joint, or using a clean pipe or bong to ingest a little bit at a time and see how you get on?
My advice would be find some nice organically grown outdoor (try coffeeshop YoYo) or something rich with CBD (try Cofffeeshop Siberie - they sell both) for the simple reason that outdoor weed will be less potent than the stronger stuff favoured by most of the regulars here at ACD. Better for infrequent smokers - work your way up to the stronger stuff.
CBD is a re-uptake inhibitor for THC - which means that it modulates the high THC gives you. It will help to bring a bit more of a 'body' effect to proceedings and should help to quiet a raving mind or keep any feelings of anxiety at bay to boot.
Ask your budtender for advice - they'll be particularly helpful at the shops I mentioned if you explain your situation I'm sure.
Have fun. Be safe. Report back

Hi Onehighmofo,
Thank you for your response, I do smoke tobacco so I know its defiantly not that, but after looking into it a bit more this morning I think its the fact I'm smoking to much to quick as I am not a regular user. I tend to smoke it like a ciggerate and i smoke them pretty quick. Obviously being in an environment like the coffee shops in Amsterdam I can take the time to relax and take it at my own pace.
I will defiantly check those shops out that you mentioned and ill let you know how I got when I get back.

Another question I have is about Hash? Ive never tried it but I would like to. I know there are many varites but I've heard its a lot stronger than weed. Is this true?

By weight, typically yes. A gram of weed will be 20-25% THC at best. A gram of average 'import' hash will contain up to 30 - 35% THC.
A gram of top-shelf 'bubble hash' or 'ISO or isolator' as the Dutch call it would be anywhere from 40 - 70% THC.
However most people (and certainly most inexperienced - or old school smokers) find the lower priced (€6 - €15 per gram) import hashes a LOT less potent and more relaxing than most hybrid strains of weed you'll buy in Amsterdam. For a couple of reasons:
Firstly; most import hash smokers tend to have old school European consumption habits in that they roll with tobacco - so these consumers aren't putting very much hash in their spliffs. Which means that comparatively; the amount of THC contained will be lower than in a typical weed/tobacco spliff.
Secondly; import hash tends to be more relaxing than weed because it almost always contains a lot more CBD than weed - for reasons I don't fully understand (although likely genetics are the major contributing factor). Typically import hash will also have a lot higher percentage of CBN (than flowers) too - which is another Cannabinoid that is a THC re-uptake inhibitor and therefore contributory to a more relaxing and 'body' trip. CBN is a by-product of THC that has been degraded by oxidisation (exposure to heat and light essentially) which is exactly the reason why there's lots of CBN in hashes produced in the traditional hash making regions: Morocco, Nepal, India etc. It's hot there - and they dry the crops in dusty huts, or even on roofs in glaring direct sunlight.
A western Cannabis farmer/hash producer would cringe at the thought of drying/curing in anything other than total darkness and closely controlled humidity and temperature. Hence the lower percentage of CBN, and relatively high percentage of THC from the amsterdam genetics usually used in making the hash. This is likely the deciding factor in the 'headier' effects of the stronger Dutch ISO or bubble hash.
ask your bud tender for a recommendation - I can heartily recommend Coffeeshop Tweede Kamer in the Spui district. Arguably the best hash menu in town. Or Dampkring. Equally good. Try their 'Rifman' menu. All Moroccan and decent quality imports.
Coffeeshop Siberie mentioned above do their best to inform the customer of the relative percentages of cannabinoids in their products. It's debatable how accurate the information is. But they're certainly the right people to ask advice from, and it's a lovely shop - really close to the town centre attractions.

There's some great advice above. I'll just add one thing. Eat. Lots. You are much much less likely to have a "whitey" (which is basically what you describe) on a relatively full stomach than an empty one. There's actual science behind that I believe, something to do with the effects of cannabis on metabolism and blood sugar, but experience says it is true too.
A sugary drink works in an emergency (although carbonated stuff isn't always great if you don't feel good), but it is so easy while jumping from coffeeshop to coffeeshop to forget to eat anything other than snacks for long periods of the day and that can lead to problems. Look after yourself, eat a proper breakfast, lunch and dinner and whichever strains you buy & however stoned you get you'll likely have a better time

I believe this could be the case, the last few times ive smoked have been in the morning when I haven't eaten anything and as soon as I eat I feel better again.
