mowie's trip to Haarlem

Post by mowie »

Dear diary,

this morning I told my boss that I'm not coming to the office in the next 2 days.
Instantly I left work, packed my bag at home and went to the train station.

Where to go?
Amsterdam? Would be the obvious choice.
Thinking about the last Amsterdam trip - it was ACD 420, great trip but sadly overshadowed by some not-so-great personal issues - I remembered how I missed the trip to Haarlem on Aprils 21st.
Haarlem. The "small version of Amsterdam" with the great coffeeshop scene I've heard a lot about. The city where coffeeshops can have up to 1000g instead of 500g in their shops, thanks to Nol van Schaik and his great efforts ("Keurmerk") for the coffeeshops in Haarlem.

So I whip out my phone and book some train tickets to Haarlem.
On the train, I managed to book a hotel/hostel in Haarlems city center, at "Grote Markt". Hotel Carillon. Looks pretty basic and a bit shabby, but hey, single budget room, 2 nights, 92€, breakfast included. Good!

Right now I'm on the train, crossing the German-Dutch border in about 20 minutes. Will arrive in Haarlem around 8pm (chose a very cheap, but not so fast train route).

Will keep you guys updated. First attempt at doing a "live travelogue".
I will try my very best to do pictures and include them, but please bear with me, there will be some very good stuff to smoke I reckon ;)

My top three Haarlem shops are Birdy, WW Indica, and Empire.

Enjoy

Hope the bear is happy. Have you tried the jelly, either from WW or Birdy's? Currently in Dam, undecided as to whether trip is worth it.

High Times was my 2nd favourite after Birdy's, but that's going back to the days when computers were a bonus, before we all had smartphones.

Arrived around 8pm at Hotel Carillon
staff seemed totally unprepared for hotel guests (?)
I get my room key after all, very small and basic room, bit shabby and dirty, but the bed/linen is comfy and clean. It's only for 2 nights, I say to myself...

drop my stuff and head straight to Birdy

Haarlem gracht

female bt is very friendly, playing cards with some locals, but takes her time to show me their products

S5 10€/0,9g

Image

frosty buds
pungent smell
flushed, good smoke, tasty
very energetic high
almost too much, heart races

8/10 overall

WW 10€/1,1(?)g

Image

best example of WW I had in a while
classic taste
deep space stoned
unable to type on the phone anymore
after a while, calming effects kick in
good "antidote" for the S5

8/10

Jelly 10€/0,4g

Image

very pliable and sticky stuff
cannot define taste exactly
strong stuff
last joint before bedtime, slept very very well
have to try some today...
