A week in De Pijp

A nice relaxing (although hot) week in De Pijp.

Right, let's get down to business. A couple of menus for you first:

DeGraal
Image
Atlantis
Image

DeGraal
You'll notice the weed part of the menu is now half the size, and all the medical stuff is gone! Crap!

Himalayan Mountain

Underdeveloped whispy buds, tastes nice but no real power. Overpriced. No picture. Ended up giving this stuff away.

Ketama Green

Is this a translation mistake.. should it be Ketama Cream? It's definitely not green more like red. But anyway, excellent fruity stuff. Love it
Image

Chocoloco

More fresh gooey goodness, again a fantastic strong soft hash. Well done DeGraal! Tastes sublime
Image

Critical Kush

Again, amazing stuff. Really tastes fantastic. Soft like play do. Beautiful Indica effect. Again do not be fooled by the looks, this is powerful creamy hash!
Image

Katsu

Universally loved, odd packing system all ready weighed bags.

Shoreline
More outdoor looky than I was expecting. Dark green. Distinctive shoreline taste. Strong, but not as good as I have had it elsewhere. No picture

Orange Bud
10 a gram and much better. Really amazing offering. Lovely taste, lovely high. No picture

CoffeeShop Club Media

Casey Jones

No picture. Very average stuff, reminds me of a basic kush. Was way overpriced at €12 a g.

Nepal Polm

€20 a gram! Meant to be a super hash, and it is.. but melts all over your fingers when trying to roll a joint. Tastes and smell is incredible, No picture

Atlantis

Amnesia Haze

Very good offering here. Very strong, super tasty Amnesia Haze. The sativa leaning pheno I think? No picture sorry

Ibiza
Currently consider this the best Coffee Shop in Amsterdam

Girl Scout Cookies

Buds look a little odd/dark. Almost no smell (smells like bush weed) Smokes beautifully though and this was probably the strongest stuff of the trip.. very euphoric.
Image

Nepal

No picture. Decent stuff.

Papillon

Santa Maria
For the price this stuff amazed me (9€ a gram). Had a somewhat haze like smell. Strong. I think I started singing 'Ave Maria' in the Coffee Shop. No picture

Blue Cheese
€12 a gram. Nice stuff but I've had better blue cheese. Buds didn't seem that fresh. No picture

Nepal Himalaya

Looks the part, nice mellow stuff. A little too mellow, made me want to go to bed actually. Priced at €13 it is NOT cheap
Image

Stones
Now a tiny little dispensary located down this way. No tables that I remember, a buy and run kind of place.

BlueBerry Kush
Decent stuff, but overpriced. I think it was 12. Not a power kush at all, just nice easy afternoon kush
Image

137
Not in De Pijp. Popped into this place on a long walk.

White Widow

€9 a gram.
Awesome. Really fresh and creamy. Great strong high. I looked at their top kush and it smelt too strong. This was perfect, and brought back some very happy memories. Recommended.

Well that's about it, sorry I didn't make it to YoYo or Tweede Kamer, might have got some better weed. Anyway still good hash to be had at DeGraal

Thanks very much for this. CS Ibiza has been on my list for a while - I'll have to check it out this month. They look to have a fairly extensive menu - is that still the case?

Thanks for the post - how did you pick what to smoke ? Did you just ask the bud tender to show you a few samples of the best hash/weed ?

I typically ask a shit ton of questions, then mindlessly point to something.

Ha - just kidding. I've seen someone do that, though. The funniest exchange I witnessed once was between Regular Heineken and Extra Cold Heineken. But for weed/hash, I, personally, try to be informed by reviewing current menus on the coffeeshop menu website. Then I may ask a question or two about current offerings on this forum. Then, armed with that bit of knowledge, maybe I peruse Leafly and read about the various strains. Then I'm going to chat with the Budtender about the various qualities. You can find out quickly if they are full of shit or smoke. Be friendly and don't try to impress anyone with some sort of superior knowledge, and the BT will generally reciprocate and point out something very good. I might also ask what they need to move, what is fresh, what they would purchase and take home, and what might be on its last legs.

You get a feel for the right purchase. And if it is not the best quality, you should still have a grin because, hey, you just purchased weed off of a freaking menu for goodness sake. When you return to, ahem, Texas, or whatever other country, you ain't typically purchasing weed from a menu. It's nice bud, and it is a rare experience that you just enjoyed.

Nevertheless, being informed is part of the fun for me. And you might make a good friend of the BT, too. For a few years, an Asian guy worked at Barney's Lounge (back when the tabletops had the faux bamboo). After a few visits, he got to where he at least acknowledged me. Recall from my trip reports, my wife is addicted to those dang milkshakes (when the freaking machine works). He was a great guide for the menu - buy this, don't bother with that, this is a good value, etc. Ingi at Utopia is another great BT mainstay. The people at Paradox are also very good and seem to be mainstays.

Normally look for a strain I've had before that I like or ask for a recommendation!

Yeah their menu has not changed significantly from the one up on coffeshopmenus.org

Awesome thanks for the reply, sounds almost the same as what I do. I have a few strains and coffee shops already jotted down - De-Grall from what I recall was the go to shop for hash but that was a couple years ago.

Cheers, great to have such a detailed report. Those various black hashes look eminently tempting.

Looking forward to detailed analysis. For whatever reason, I haven't been in there on recent trips, although I used to get 5g deals on hash, and once tried the Green Crack as my overpriced-but-worth-it purchase. Also, wondering if the cat is still there.

Great to know - that's exactly what I'd hoped would be the case.
@fod I've got my eye on that green crack too - she's still a strain on the todo list.

Sadly no cat on last visit. Still great stuff on telly!

I think it's often overlooked as a destination because it's so out of the way. Staying in the centre it's a good 20 min walk. Staying in the Pijp it's probably a 15 min walk depending on where you are etc. Often the closest possible coffeeshop seems the most tempting to go to..
