Dagreisje door Nederland. Day Tripping around the Lowlands (Den Haag & Leiden)
Posted: Tue 1st Nov 2016 12:52 pm
Taking advantage of unemployment and a soon to expire railpass good for the whole country, inspiration to take a little excursion through this country which I've called home for some 2+ years now.
Around noon I make for Centraal from the Keizersgracht. Tentative itinerary - Down to Den Haag to give the much lauded Dizzy Duck a go. They test their weed both for cannabinoids and contaminants, and make said results directly available to clientele, in the name of furthering transparency in the industry (allegedly). Then after that onward to Leiden to take in its picturesque scenery and maybe give a go at its own CS-circuit with "High Society" which is the other one along with Dizzy Duck (where I'm currently sat typing this), that offers these detailed test reports to customers.
Anyway 12:30 train's pulling off from Centraal. I realize that despite my previous misunderstanding of the pass's validity on the "hi-speed", I don't need a supplement-ticket unless I specifically take the line going between Schipol & Rotterdam, phew! Frugal boner popped! That in mind, I contemplate adding an additional stop to my trans-Holland trek - hmmm perhaps Utrecht, an oldie but favorite, I note this line passes through Haarlem (and Leiden as well) on the outbound journey so I can add Haarlem without to much fuss. But part of me is thinking another new city maybe Hoorn – pics show her to be a lovely little quaint typical Dutch fishing-village. Blue Tomato (an Amsterdam Genetics affiliate) is also in that town so certainly an option.
50 minutes later I've arrived at Den Haag Centraal. Google maps tells me it's a 30 minute hike from the station to DD, a bit cumbersome but I've only superficially acquainted myself with the Dutch functional-capital - so I opt for the ole shoelace express and hoof it! It's a mildly cold and overcast day, how Dutch. The city itself is clean, well preserved with the typical elements of Dutch architecture, less canals and more chain-businesses – globalization you cunt! Still a sight prettier than your average American city/town but nothing to write home about for a Dutch town to be honest.
At last I've arrived at the DD, that I've heard oh-so-many rave reveiews about. I take a look at few different strains, before settling on Fire Alien Kush, for 13 per gram (most expensive on the menu, everything else is ranging from 8.50-10.50 per gram, well weedwise). The smoking room is fairly small (not grey area but smaller than Paradox, for perspective). The FAK is not super dense, darker with ample light orange pistils, a faint mentholated smell of camphor/lip-balm, a grape jam, with some woody-earthy notes. Definitely different, but alla old-school indica smelling. Test results indicate a THC-content of 16.33%, oh more on that – each bag comes with a little slip of paper with strain name, cannabinoid breakdown (THC/CBD) and a QR code you can with your phone for the whole analysis report of each strain (there's also a batch number on the slip). Didn't scan the code yet, but cool concept nonetheless.
More on FAK, vapes really lush and distinct fruity-earthy flavor in the Volcano. She's more potent than her test results would suggest in a pure joint too, nice enough flavor. Tastes better in the vape, but hits harder in the joint. Solid smoke, given their prices for everything else on the menu though, I feel a euro or two could be knocked off the price to make it a bit of a better value – but I've certainly had a lot worse for the price...
Back to description of interior, nothing to write home about either. There is a volcano and verdamper available for use much to my amusement, points there! The volcano bag is of the "solid-valve" set and they cut the balloon to petty limpdick sized portions, not amused! Still works though, so less complaint. I awkwardly posture myself up at a fuller communal table waiting for a better spot to clear up. Eventually a better spot on the table's "booth", with two electrical-sockets below opens up, so I make haste and snatch it up!
After about a half-hour of annoying the whole rookruimte with my back-and-forth pacing movements to the volcano, getting my smoke gear out, setting up laptop and phone charger. I finally get settled, just in time to con my wallet into taking another visit to the counter to inspect some more wares, I land on the Dyna-Bubba for 10.50 euros per gram, not sure of genetic background, will try and inquire. Have not tried (first-glance whiff brings up notes of meatyness, overripe/rotting melons (among other fruits) and earthy-wood), but instead opened up this travelogue. Typed out a novella thus far, so plan is to wrap it up here, trek back to the station and make for Leiden. Will update when there hopefully.
Overall Dizzy Duck does indeed offer some of the best value to quality I've seen in a Dutch CS (on the same tier as Boerejongens & the Stud for value)
Be crispy stoners!
