Coffeeshop Scene in Den Haag?

Post by aVeryOldLady »

Hey guys,

I am thinking about a spontaneous trip do den Haag. As I have only been to Amsterdam when traveling to the Netherlands, this feels kinda like the feeling I had before my first trip to the Dam. It's gonna be a couple vacation with an occasional smoker, so a lot of culture during the day. Fortunately, I was able to negotiate a trip to one or to coffeeshops every night. :D

But this means I will not be able to visit a lot of shops or try a lot of different strains, so I need to make to most out of my limited choices. So my question is, can you guys recommend any shops I need to try there?
It is important that I can actually smoke there and that they don't close too early.

Here is a list of recommended shops I've already found browsing the forum:

Cremer's (smoking only in the cafe next door?)
Dizzy Duck
Greenhouse
Happy Smile (buy'n'fly?)
The Crow
The Freak Brothers

Any suggestions in case I have missed good places or some of those on my list are buy'n'fly only are appreciated. Suggestions regarding other stuff to do are appreciated, too.

Thank you!

When I went to den Haag I ended up only going to Cremers, because nothing grabbed me in the other shops, and there didn't seem to anybody smoking in them. Mind you, this was before noon, so perhaps they were more interesting later, at least as far as the social aspect goes. I'm pretty sure I didn't pass Dizzy Duck, though, and from other people's recommendations, I'm sorry to have missed it. I have an idea some shops have big signs about requesting ID, so be prepared. Apart from coffeeshops, the Maurits Museum is worth a visit.

Looking forward to your reviews of coffeeshops and whatever else.

I am a regular visitor of The Hague.

When I do a tour I aways start at Dizzy Duck. Always a good selection of quality weeds.

Then I go to 2 shops almost next to each other; No Limit and Sympathy.
No Limit can have interesting deals with their Special bags but always ask to see the wares before purchase.
Sympathy also has the same interesting deals; 35euro for 5g White Widow. Same rules apply as for No Limit.

Then I head to The Point, big selection and very friendly people. The owner is also a very polite and helpfull man.

After that I go to Greenhouse, biggest selection (25+ strains) ever and very good quality. But expensive and no room for deals.

Cremers is always on my list and is my sit and relax place, to size up my stock and prepare for the return home.

London is also a good choice for good deals, Fly 2 can have interesting weeds and Meneer Janssen or De Mazzelaar for a quick grab.

Freak Brothers is a bit further away but worth the trip.

No experience with The Crow and Happy Smile.

As for sitting, smoking and relaxing I recommend Cremers of course. But no negative vibes in any of these shops.

Thank you all for the tips and recommendations!

The map will be used as a guide, thank you very much.

I've now narrowed it down to:

Dizzy Duck
The Point
Cremers
Greenhouse (not sure if smoking in there is possible though)
The Freak Brothers
The Crow

Let's see how that goes :D

The bit about Cremers only allowing smoking in the café next door is a bit misleading. Basically, it's one building, and doesn't look that much different from a coffeeshop where the budtender is at the front, and you go inside to smoke. For all practical purposes, it's a bar with a dealer's counter outside.

When I visited, I fell in love with it, because in my mind it was the ideal place where I could smoke with my drinking friends. They could have beer, I could have my pipe, and everyone would be happy. Sadly, I've since heard that smoking isn't allowed in the main part any more, because people were mixing with tobacco. So it goes.

I visited Cremers a year ago.
Upstairs besides the seperated weed and hashselling counter there is a very nice place which resembles a "very gezellig Dutch bruin cafe" (cozy brown pub) .
Wooden floor and nice wooden bar and so and as a bonus nice places at the windows with a view.

Few years before that I walked by and it was crowded and people were smoking in this gezellige bruine cafe section.
I didn't go in at that time but I sort of promised myself to return (much) later.
Last year the bruin cafe section was open but totally empty - only someone behind the bar.

Sadly enough you could not smoke there anymore.
I think I asked if I could smoke my pipe and pure hash but a friendly but firm "NO" was the answer if I remember this correct - I was a bit stoned after a long trip.

They pointed me to the cellar where there is a big room (40 - 60 square meters orso) where you can smoke and drink.
But this is a room with no windows, concrete floor and matching furniture.
Not very cozy but very crowded.

Not my taste sadly enough so I smoked a fast one and left.

Didn't buy any hash because I had plenty at that moment

Yes that's the short version

I like to sit somewhere in nice decorated/furnished places preferably with a nice view and be able to smoke without going to "a special place" - it's just crazy.

So it's ruined indeed.

Makes me think of a nice meal in front of you but you're not able to eat it because some stupid rule or whatever says so
Complete waste of a perfect space wich it almost seemed to be from the outside - years ago - this cafe Cremers.

Have to say that the cellar certainly can be an enjoyable place for some people but not for me.

Hi,

I can't recommend any shops to go to but have you thought about the short trip to the beach? Weather permitting. 8)

There are a couple of shops near Scheveningen Beach or just take a few pre rolls and enjoy a gentle stroll along the seafront.

I put a little video montage thing on youtube a few years ago. Light one up, hit full screen and enjoy the view.

Have fun.

So basically, Den Haag was like a more quiet version of Amsterdam with less water in the city but a nice beach. You really do notice that there are a lot less tourists and it is not so crowded overall. The city itself was really nice and it was fun exploring it as there was a lot to see and do. Places like the Mauritshuis and the Escher Museum are highly recommended. Also, I was lucky to have attended the annual beer festival. :D

The coffeeshop scene itself is different from the one in Amsterdam. The first thing you notice is that there are no seats outside of a coffeeshop. At first, I thought this was because it is not really summer yet, but most days were really warm. Also, I have not seen any shop where the budtender was in a room where people smoke, meaning there is only one room for smoking which means a lot of tobacco smoke. Actually, I've seen nobody but me smoking without tobacco. The staff of all the shops I have visited is really helpful and polite, something that is usually a gamble in Amsterdam. As I was only able to visit one shop for a quick joint each night, I was mostly after half grams so that there would be no leftovers. None of the shops had a problem with me purchasing less than a gram, although some had special policies like The Crow 2.0 (5€ per person to enter the smoking area) or Dizzy Duck (6€ minimum). The crowd in the shops was rather young and more often than not we were the only tourists in there, which was not an issue, though. Something that I noticed is that a lot of people play games like board or card games, which are often provided by the shop, creating a much more relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately, the shops themselves looked mostly uninviting, at least to me.
The quality of the weed is ok, but nothing I had really stood out. I'm sure there can some quality be found, though.
During my trip I had:

Enemy of the State 10€/g - The Crow 2.0
G13 Haze 12€/g - The Crow 2.0
Amnesia prerolls 3,50€/joint - The Crow 2.0
White Widow Bubbles 11€/g (I think) - Dizzy Duck
Kosher Kush 16€/g - Greenhouse

I wasn't able to finish the prerolls as all of this tobacco in them killed my throat. Of all the stuff I have smoked there, the Kosher Kush was my favorite tastewise. Effectwise, the strain from Dizzy Duck was one of the stronger ones.
For strainhunting, I can recommend the Greenhouse. They had the largest weed menu and strains that were on no other menu I have seen, e.g. the Kosher Kush. I only went to coffeeshops in the evening, when they were rather crowded. It might be a little better during the day.

All in all, a nice city and a relaxed and familiar atmosphere in the coffeeshops. A two day trip, e.g. over a weekend, should be enough to see the most important things the city has to offer. As I was only able to visit coffeeshops in the evening, this was rather like a nice extra to my vacation.

Now, I am looking forward to my next trip to Amsterdam.
