Coffeeshops and eateries in the Albert Cuypstraat area

Post by KrazeUK »

Good morning all. I am looking for some information regarding coffeeshops that are in and around the Heineken Experience/Albert Cuypstraat area.

I know about Katsu and Club Media, but am looking for some trusted shops in this vicinity. I also know that De Graal is now closed. Also looking for recommended eateries in this area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Bazar is a Middle Eastern themed restaurant on Albert Cuypstraat.
The prices are reasonable, the food is delicious and the decor/atmos is special.

Tjin's is a Surinameese eatery and international specialty mart (asian, US and Mexican goods mostly).

Cheap, to go food a favorite of mine! Get the spicy chicken sandwich but be sure to ask for "hete & zuur"

Completely agreed with both recommendations, Bazaar is an old favorite we have been visiting for ages since having it recommended by the nice northern African lady that was budtending at Katsu maybe eight or nine years back.

Nugs took us to Tjins one late evening last year and good job on that one, very reasonable prices and yummy munchie killers a plenty.

The Burger Bar next to Katsu does soon fooking amazeballs onion rings (I know nugs is onboard with this) to go with their good burgers (not the best burgers on the planet, but we in general aren't that blown away with burger quality in Amsterdam but, at least to us, burger bar has been pretty solid).

If you are just looking for a snack there are tons of options along the AC market, recommendations include fried kibbeling, some of the sloppy, sinful and very Dutch market unique chicken stuff smothered n cheesy sauce (not the fine dining experience, but certainly an experience all right), some nice hummus and other southern European delights and off course the fresh made stroop waffles, so freaking good with a cup of coffee and a nice hash joint, or just scuffed in walking down the market as soon as it is cooled a bit from the positively thermonuclear temperatures that dude's waffleiron imparts in those puppies...

For a bit more of an adventure and possibly the dinning experience of your trip we recommended heading just a few hundred meters South to explore de pijp, there are wonders to be found but we have admittedly been too mashed while venturing around that area to pinpoint exact locations...

Smoke wise you are sadly quite worse off as Katsu (several personal unsatisfying or downright bad experiences with the product here over the last year, several reports of the same from trusted members) and media ( reportedly going down hill fast) were the two go to places). Would say bring your own and hang at Katsu (buying drinks and tipping the staff for their great service off course, they have a great, Danish produced naturfrisk orange soda there that is very good).

Have fun!

I just returned from staying at a houseboat in that area. Lots of great places!

CS Ibiza had great wares and friendly staff. CS Carmona was very nice and friendly. Then a favorite of mine, CS Yo-Yo. All at the eastern end of the Market.

My wife really enjoyed SNCKBR (no vowels). Very healthy food. There is a juice lady in the Market that has great juice.

Omelegg -De Pijp is over there. Also good coffee places abound.

Ed turned us onto Costa Nostra for great Italian! On Ceintuurban.

Great area with lots to offer. Hard to go wrong there. Very safe during the day.

There's a good Surinam-Chinese restaurant on Albert Cuypstraat, west of the market, called Albina. Actually, there might be two, one differentiated by the imaginative adjective 'nieuw', so I'm not sure which I mean. I don't know if there was or is a connexion between them. Perhaps someone should visit, and report back.
