So from the research i've done this time round, i'll be spending my first night at least at het ballonnetje, any recommendations for delicious nourishment close by?

Not sure about "delicious" , but Cafe Roeter which is on the Sarphatistraat side (east) of Ballonetje is solid. There are a handful of eateries on Roeterstraat, my advice is check reviews.

The Artis bus stop is surrounded by eateries, again, check the reviews. I like Cafe Koosje for lunch or coffee. There is a fantastic sofa in the window which is great for people watching.

Overall I would not classify the area as a gastro paradise but you can certainly get fed. Good luck.
