I think you have to be 16 to buy a drink in a bar.

I could be wrong, though I'm sure I read that somewhere.

yeah i hear all kinds of stuff haha. I live in America now and i can't believe how many stupid rules they have here. Schools are retarded and people sue for anything they can, it's horrible. So it's weird to think about how you can go to a bar in germany at 16 or even younger and have a couple beers.
It's not a big deal but in America you can't even sit at bar with your parents in resturant if you're waiting to be seated at a table.

bast... come to my work and check out all the 17 year olds with life threatening head injuires because they got ahold of some liquour and chose to drink and drive.. how their lives and the lives of their families have changed dramatically for the worst. These rules are NOT stupid. I do want to point out that I rarely see someone come in from a bad car accident that was "just smoking pot". Its 99% of the time alcohol and or some harder drugs such as cocoaine. so I dont think the rule for 21 yrs or older is bad at all. As far as sitting with your parents at a bar in a restaurant, well I see it happen all the time so I dont know what restaurant your talking about. anyway, peace
I need a miracle everyday

Ok i found the drinking age... same as in Germany 16 beer and wine 18 spirits! Yayah i hate liquor anyways ha. Oh and i think they should raise the driving age to 18 and drinking beer to 16 ...Less accidents cuz 16 is way too young.

i think alcohol should be at 21, and I am form Germany. It sucks really hard and I have seen what happens to alcoholicans, the father of my girl is one, and he destroyed the family by being aggressive after drinking too much.
It killed my uncle and my aunt, it makes my mum suffer right now and it killed my grandfather (besides he had lung cancer). The only one it didnt destroy until now is my father who has been a bar-keeper for 20 years or more, he never gets agressive or anything else, he is a positive man, like I am and I am very happy about this fact. I drink alcohol very rarely.......it just sucks!

I'm sorry that's a terrible story and I feel for you.

But that made me laugh, not the story obviously but just that word.

I'm easily amused.

I think 21 is an insult. What I don't understand though is how they let 16 year olds drive in the US.

you'll be fine. I don't think I've ever seen anyone ID'ed in Amsterdam for alcohol. Just order what you want and the guy will give it to you, beer or hard drink alike - they want your money!
