It's dead easy... just look for the train station signs in the airport, go down the stairs and follow the signs... it's well sign posted, you can't really go wrong... some trains take a little longer than others but most is about 15/20 mins tops.

If there's ever a question I ask the people who are standing there who look like locals if it goes to CS. They've never steered me wrong yet.

Actually, there is no train that takes you from Schipol to Dam Square. From under the airport, the trains run about every 15 minutes to Amsterdam Centraal Station. From Centraal Station you then take the tram (#s 4, 9, 24 or 25) to Dam Square (first tram stop after leaving the station). If you have any problems, dont hesitate to ask. You will find most people to be very helpful. Peace.

I think when I was there we were told that 5 ran every hour, and it is very easy, schipol is a big airport but it is so handy to get your train.

its really simple, you go down the escelator to the station part, on the wall is a sign sorta like

<------ AMSTERDAM ( cant remmeber name of other place) ------>

or other way round but you get what im sayin ha ha.

first time we were there we were waitin at the tram stop for the number 1 2 or 5 to get us to leidsplein, luckily one friendly local heard us sayin ' wheres our fuckin tram its been nearly 25 minutes' she said ' for leidsplein you need to go to that tram stop over there' ha ha after thankin her and findin out she loved english people we were soon on our way.

Yes it's easy, just go down the escalators and look at the signs for Amsterdam Centraal Station.

Get your ticket first though, before going down the escalator. I found the ticket machines confusing at first but they are actually quite easy if you press the Union Jack to get English instructions. I pay using my UK debit card to save the Euros for more important things

Schiphol Airport
Public transportation/transit
The train station is directly connected to the airport (just follow the signs for "Trains" after exiting customs). Trains for the city center leave every 10 minutes from 6am through 1am, and once per hour after that. The ride is EUR3.40, or EUR6.50 for a round trip, and takes 15 minutes. You can purchase tickets from the machine in the baggage collection hall, or from machines or manned booths in the station itself. Trains to Amsterdam Centraal station depart from platforms 1 and 2.
Donkey smell.
