I don't think traditional temple ball had opium in it, i am not saying that opium was never added to charas in Nepal, but I think it is an urban myth. I have heard that the story of the opium being in temple ball , also came from people in Europe seeing very light mould inside their chars fingers, patties and this was explain away" as being opium man " . Opium is grown in Nepal and so I could imagine it being added to low grade charas but the first quality .... umm. Also charas is religious in Nepal, so not sure again they would add opium to their sacrement

Also agree it’s probably mostly urban legend. Back in the late 80s/ early 90s in the UK people used to peddle hash called Sputnik which was also claimed to be laced with opium. Some people wanted to try that so it was most likely just dealer marketing bs, or a cover for a more likely contaminate that was intended to make poor quality stuff have a stronger effect, i.e. ketamine. It was nasty shit.

also I should have mentioned the logistics of how you get opium in to a hand rubbed charas, can't see how you would get the opium to work through the charas, it just wouldn't work ,
