Ive taken my kids to Amsterdam, and they love the place. My eldest teenager can spend all day shopping, my youngest thinks the place is magical.

All cities have a dark side, but Amsterdam feels safer and friendlier to me than London, Frankfurt, Miami and many other cities across the world.

Not only that but it is compact and easy to travel across on foot.

Unless you plan to party 24 hours and get obliterated, it is possible to take the kids along, and still enjoy other elements of the city.
Soon we would both be completely twisted.

Absolutely - my 13 year old daughter has spent lots of time in Amsterdam over her lifetime and there's never been any shortage of places to go and things to see. Now she's in the shopping phase but still enjoys museums and art galleries too.

(She has started to make occasional hints that I could buy a couple of space bonbons for her to take home to her mates but doesn't push it when I refuse.)

Thanks Usbong for the link to that excellent article - it's inspired me to start planning to take along my neices and nephews some time soon!
