October half term

Post by jenhen »

OK, got back from the Dam 2 days ago and have already booked our next trip, for October.

As usual, the main purpose will be to visit Dutch relatives but we love sightseeing there too and I generally manage to slip off to a coffeeshop or two  I'm trying to persuade my brother or sister to join us and bring along their partners and children having had an excellent time last week with my Dad and Stepmother.

I used Priceline to book accommodation and got the 4* Moevenpick Amsterdam City Center hotel for £55 per night (£61 including taxes). This is way less than the rack rate and significantly less than we paid last week or could get in October for a really basic (but clean and fantastically located) place with no en suite bathroom. I think the Moevenpick will be an interesting location - right behind the Centraal Station, fab views over the water and city, right by a tramstop, and next to the Stedelik, Nemo and Scheepsvart museums and the new MusiekGebouw.

But anyone from this board bidding 4* city centre / museum district on Priceline should be aware that the Moevenpick is a non-smoking hotel (eek - no late night pre-rolls for me) and that it is a 10-15 minute walk to where the action starts if you don't want to rely on trams.

What dates will this family adventure be? You can be the first listed for October on Whos In Town.
