Latest Menu Posts

Post by Lemming »

What's the consensus on these? Some say they're spam, which is fair comment, but on the other hand they're no different to FBN's posts and they do appear to be real and current menus, which we all find useful.

We could ask the poster to tone down the commercialism a bit or we could ask that they go via FBN or whatever.

What do you think?

I think we would all agree that having updated coffeeshop menus is ideal, especially for those that live so close to the C.S. scene. On the other hand, this peson is definitely promoting himself, and trying to make a buck off of ACD which is not acceptable.
Maybe put up a poll and let ACD'ers decide whether he stays....or leaves.

Personally I think it’s abit over commercialised, to me they appeared as more adverts for another site than posts. The poster however seems a good guy and I also think it’s good to have more recent and up to date menus.

I know Fbn does the same but his feel less like ad’s...

My two cents:

The up to date menu information is appreciated...and/but I'll still come here to ACD for said info and the community...

Are the coffeeshops mentioned in this recent menu post-fest all part of a common consortium, or are they just random CSs?

They seem to be random shops. The biggest consortium I know of is Amsterdam Genetics. It includes Coffeeshop Sloterdijk, (Betty Boop Powered by Boerejongens), Boerejongens Center, Boerejongens West, Boerejongens BIJ, Zamnesia, Coffeeshop Amsterdam, Tweede Kamer, Blue Tomato, Coffeeshop Johnny, Coffeeshop DNA, and Coffeeshop Takeaway. Not totally sure but I think Empire ( Haarlem ) is also in their fold.

Quite a collection of shops.

Enjoy

I don't see an obvious connection between the shops at all.

Having new menus posted is pretty useful, the level of advertisement attached is ott for my personal taste in terms of actually making me interested in what is being promoted. FBN's style however has always been spot on for me and always felt like a community service really... but materially both are posting a menu & linking another site I guess. I'm cool either way, personally I think the poster would be better served just toning it down a bit anyway so that happening would probably be the ideal solution.

After reading his response on sharing menu pics with FBN (copy right laws )considering most say no pictures
He is a scammer in my opinion. If anyone should make money it,s Lem ,I still can,t understand why we don,t have click bait from seed banks and such ..If not interested then you don,t click . IC mag full of these adds and does not effect threads .
Profit is not a dirty word Lem ,your time should be compensated in little ways when possible

Right, so, of the 10 people who've expressed a preference so far, nobody seems to feel this is just spam, although some of the comments may contradict that. Most of you seem to think it would be OK if less blatantly commercial. I guess that means we need to set some guidelines that can be applied whenever necessary. Seems to me the obvious starting point is the precedent set by FBN.

I seem to recall FBN has allowed contributor's logos on menus sent to him. I'm sure he credits people too.

Some form of link with a contributed menu is fair but countless insignificant posts with links is taking the piss. So, for instance, a link in a signature is unnecessary. Some form of logo, copyright, watermark or whatever within graphics is reasonable but it shouldn't be overpowering.

I think FBN should be able to take copies of any menus he wants but should not remove any logo, copyright, watermark, etc. I assume that's what he would do anyway. That should be win-win for everyone.

It's also nice if other sites include a link to the relevant ACD page on their coffeeshop pages.

Something along these lines maybe?

I think caution should be advised lemming if he started off that many posts and gets away with it who is to say he cant start posting several items every day and start to use your site which you have grown and and graciously shared with us all for free for his own profit ...advertising was never a thing on this site and im not saying im apposed to it,but if there is advertising from an outside source i think they should be paying.. we were all fine here and very happy with fbn's library of menus ,the og of them all.
