I've been a bit distracted for the past few weeks but back on the case now so I'll try to make some progress.

Still awaiting a reply from Ballonnetje. Also haven't got any further with finding someone at Birdy who remembers FBN.

I'm very interested in the idea of an excursion to DNA and De Kade. These are two of the four Amsterdam coffeeshops I've never been to.

4/20 Boat 2023

I've written the chaotic history of our 4/20 boat trips several times before, for instance 2019. To summarise, we've made many attempts back as far as 2007.

The canal cruise business is monopolised by the huge floating greenhouses who try to squeeze anyone else out. Various smaller organisations have come and gone over the years offering independent and smoker-friendly trips.

St. Nicolaas Boat Club

This was a cool collective with a few boats organised through the Boom Chicago comedy club. On a chilly evening in 2008, four of us went out with them on an open boat.

Here are SilentlyScreaming and me on that boat (I'm the one shivering on the left).
Image

That was our first successful 4/20 boat trip.

In 2009 we went with St. Nic. again. This time it was warm and we had a few more people. One advantage of an open boat is that it can get under low bridges so we were able to explore some of the smaller canals, such as sailing past Solo.

The Armada

In 2011 we went out on a collection of little boats.

Image

Ganja Cruises / Pure Boats

2015, 2016 and 2019

Captain James has a very smart cabin cruiser, complete with a big glass bong. It holds about a dozen people between the comfy saloon and open deck. The closed cabin makes a great smokebox and would be useful in bad weather, although the three times we went on it, it's been warm and dry.

Image

By 2019 he had converted the boat to electric power and teamed up with Pure Boats. He had also refurbished it so it was even smarter.

Smoke Boat

2017, 2018 and 2022

The Smoke Boat is specifically intended for stoners. It has a big covered space and runs public and private tours.

Their original boat held more than 20 people so was great for a larger group. We hired the whole thing in 2017 and 2018 and had a great floating smoky party.

Image

By 2022 they had an even larger boat and we had a smaller, post-plague, party. For that reason we decided to join a public sailing.

Image

The Bulldog Boat

Image

We've never been on this one but I got a picture of it last year and it looks good if we could fill it. Thanks to Ed the Head, we spent a couple of evenings in the Bulldog Hotel bar last year so we have a man on the inside.

2023

The consensus seems to be that last year's trip on a public sailing was not up to the standard of all our previous cruises. That means we need to pick a boat that we can fill if we charter the whole thing.

It seems unlikely that we could fill the new bigger Smoke Boat so options include self-drive little boats, Bulldog Boat, Pure Boats, Those Dam Boat Guys (much like the old St.Nic boats, I think), canoes, pedalos, skinny dipping, etc.

What does everyone think?

The Bulldog Boat looks good, reasonable price and like Trad said if we had 10 people up for it then we might as well just pay the difference on it and have the boat to ourselves  for the duration of the sailing. I think we have around 8 of us already and now there are some more members coming into town 14 in total now so we may make the numbers up and more. If we do pay the extra then that would mean a couple of locals like Gapie could jump on for the sailing also :D which would be a win.

I have no problem booking the boat or any boat up in advance for us all and then settle up when we are all in town, i.e divide the total cost by the amount of people who want to get involved and sail the merry canals :D. I do think a cover on part of the boat is a must in case we get any bad weather coming in and I do not want to watse any of my dabs   but hopefully it will be a glorious 420 week for us all 8) If we all agree on a suitable vessel for us all then I will get it booked up for us

Are any members interested in edibles again this year :?: I will be meeting up with 'Nice things For Nice People' again to collect some of his Hash Brownies and will also get some of the chocolate bars again, as they was spot on. Obviously I can arrange to meet up with Fudge This again to collect any fudge orders people might have, but a lot of the coffeeshops are now stocking his excellent wares  Shout at me if you do want anything as I will have to set it up

Out of interest what are the other 2 coffeeshops that you have never been to :?: we could tick them off if we have the time during the week :D

What are the thoughts on a suitable ACD base for us all then :?: are we think the Bat Cave or another establishment like The Flying Dutchman or the Bulldog Lounge or Hill Street Blues or a combination of a few spots :?: and what about the 1st nights session any thoughts on a location for it, like starting at the Bottle and going from there :?: Any thoughts people :?: I would like to propose a mini session down at the Kashmir Lounge one evening maybe.

I see Trad has a T 'n' T scheduled @8am @1eHulp on the 18th 8) although maybe a little to early for me, we will make an extra effort and try and attend it  I would also like to pencil in a T 'n' T for the 18th @HetBallonnetje @12 noon :D 8) hoping my ribs allow me to hit it hard at all these sessions :D

@CouphenagenCouple what bike rentals do you recommend for the whole week mate :?: Black Bikes are well expensive for the whole week like silly money  Discount Bike Rentals seem to be quite reasonable compared to Black Bikes like half the cost :? so most probably go with them unless you have a solid recommendation

Things are starting to take shape now and as we get closer to the 420 week I personally think we will have a good week set up. Looking forward to getting into town now and meeting and blazing it up with old friends and making some new ones :D 8)

High all
I am up for the boat trip. Can I suggest having a look at the canna cruise boat?
It looks like a reasonable price see
https://canna-cruise.com/canna-cities/amsterdam/
only the Private Canna Cruise looks good at 150 euro for "from 10 people".
It looks like they have a volcano, a rosin press and a THC analyser.
best wishes

Never tried Discount Bike Rentals, but tbh I think you've nailed it with them mate. Mike's bikes would be our go to place for long term, but they're only a tour company now. The last few years, we've gone for black bikes, but they're getting really expensive, especially for longer duration. Chopper Mike and others always go to Star Bikes or something like that I think, but never been ourselves.

I've just ordered an ov-chipkaart and used Hotel Atlantis as my address (they said it was ok) It cost about £7 and is valid for 5 years. With this you can use the ov fiets all over the city and it's only 4 euros a day. It includes insurance too.

Hey Jolly  I already have a reusable OV card which I keep topped up, I don't mind the public transport when in town, a bike though makes things that little bit quicker to get to places. Will still use the tram but for late at night when the tram stops the bike is going to be a must for us, saves us using the night bus's.

Hey Tom will score the Edibles for you no worries  do you want double of everything for Mr G also :?: the brownies and chocolate bars will be coming from Nel as that's 'Nice Things' 8) Brownies are roughly 5e  and the chocolate bars are about 10e each (could get you 2 brownies and 2 chocolate bars) but if you want more just say :D

Hi Bedge  for the input, I had a look at the link and nice looking boats with the extras like you said, but I think that the ticket cost is 75e each for an hour or 150e each for the hour and half, when I added the 10 tickets to the cart for the hour and half ride, the cost came up as 1500e. So not sure if there is a cheaper option :?: for these boats or was I stoned

Sorry maybe didnt make it clear. You can rent bikes with the ov chipkaart for 4e a day. They've just opened a massive underground bike parking at central station too. You just scan your card and take the bike.
