Well this maybe the very post that turns many of you against me but I hope you understand my point I intend to write this logically rather than preach "baseball bat over the head style" as some may do.
First let me state that I too have seen all the harry potter movies and really did not think of the harm they could cause I was just bored and wanted to watch a well made movie with some awesome special effects and I liked them well enough that I watched them all.
Now my opinion has changed on this and many things because you begin to hear from and read what young people in many places have come out saying that this and many other movies, shows and even animated features that they were raised on regularly gave them a "it is just so harmless attitude" that they thought why not and they began to explore their new interest to their near complete destruction as they went down a dark path of exploration that completely changed them in many tragic ways.
I am sorry that I know some on here maybe offended but I care to much about children not to say this......the life of a child is to precious to allow them to end up becoming part of the horrid list of things that if people would just listen to the victims themselves who's voices for the most part are suppressed instead of listening to the entertainment industries propaganda who like all industries could care less as long as they make money it just might change your mind.
Children should not be exposed to an awareness of such dark arts at an age so young that they are not ready to make an informed decision for themselves and to give them an awareness of such at those young ages you might as well leave a loaded gun laying in the house and not tell them what it is.
cattales1960 I am so sorry for messing up your thread you have been so very kind to me on here and if not for the certain percentage of children that I know have been harmed on watered down seemingly harmless entertainment that later on in life brought them to a very dark place I would have kept my mouth shut.

Biker I respect your beliefs, but there are no facts to prove that Harry Potter, Dungeons & Dragons, Lord of the Rings, or any other fantasy story or game has had any detriment to any child. Quite the opposite, however, has been found as in most cases it leads kids to read.

I'm curious to know what bad stuff has happened. I remember when I lived in Michigan, this kid and his buddies played Dungeons and Dragons in the steam tunnels at the campus. I think the kid was killed, but not because of the game, he just got in a really bad crowd and made some stupid decisions. Of course some nut jobs tried to make a connection to scare kids away from using their imagination.
No offense to anyone, but I think dark arts and religion are superstition, just my opinion.
What about heavy metal?
Now MTV's Jackass, that could be a bad influence.

The exaggerated story of the steam tunnel incident at Michigan State University was made into a movie called Mazes & Monsters starring Tom Hanks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_tunnel_incident

But the most important line is the following:
The American Association of Suicidology, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and Health & Welfare (Canada) would all eventually conclude that there is no causal link between fantasy gaming and suicide.
I can only assume that the same would be for fantasy films.
