I read a couple of other open forums and they use xenforo. Rarely any downtime and always responsive.

I spoke with the administrator of one and he said he uses the full xenforo cloud package so I'd assume they deal with all the extra security measures to stop bots etc. He says its the best the site has ever functioned.

They also do a self hosted option where you buy the software license for the year and they provide support.

Another thing ive been reading and may be a simpler quick fix is setting honeypots for web scraping bots. And it's maybe time to implement a captcha?

And finally cloudflare have an ai bot to help with blocking scrapers etc.

I'm more than happy to help out financially.

Hope that is a help to you.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I'll check those out again.

Regarding contributions, please set up a regular subscription to put a bit in my PayPal account lemming@coffeeshop.freeuk.com every month. Thank you.

We're over 90% full right now. With some regular contributions I could upgrade, giving more space and raising the max-out limit a little, which might help a bit with the bots.

This is an ongoing problem. It's a bit whack-a-mole. New swarms of bots with different characteristics keep popping up. We seem to be functioning reasonably well at the moment after I blocked a few new IP addresses today.
