Latest coffeeshop changes

Post by Lemming »

There's been much discussion about changes to The Plug shops on these forums. It's been suggested that they might all be changing but, so far, the only one that has been confirmed as no longer being a Plug is the old Rusland shop that was Plug XXX or Plug 3 that's been taken over by The Hit from The Hague. As far as I know, the other two recent takeovers by The Plug, The Plug East (formerly Speak Easy) and The Plug Westerdok (formerly Baba) are still Plugs.

I heard today that Aktama from Den Helder has taken over Coffeeshop 156 and renamed it Aktama 2. I haven't updated the ACD on that one yet and I'd love to hear from anyone exploring around the Baarsjes area about it.

Last but not least, there's a new drive-through shop in Utrecht called Griffioen.

Thanks for the update Lem.

Has there been a Coffeeshop from another Dutch city/town that’s took over an Amsterdam Coffeeshop before? Is The Hit from The Hague the first? Closely followed by Aktama from Den Helder? I know The Plug was a CSC in Barcelona before it took over Utopia (RIP) but I’m just wondering about Dutch Coffeeshops.

It’s interesting how Amsterdam Coffeeshop chains aren’t taking them over. I wonder why the likes of Greenhouse and Bulldog aren’t interested. Don’t get me wrong I’m pleased that they’re not, but curious as to why they’re not.

A few more. Some of this is old news, some I haven't updated on the site yet.

New

Magic from The Hague has opened a new branch in Doetinchem.

Takeovers

On 14th August 2024 Domino in Almere reopened as Boerejongens Almere.

't Klavertje in Amersfoort is now The Plug Amersfoort.

Inpetto in Rotterdam is now The Plug Rotterdam.

De Hobbit in Weert has been taken over by The Twins from Heerlen.

Rename

On 1st July The Point in The Hague became StrainFellows. We already have a menu for this one.

Closures

The Happy in Groningen declared bankrupt.

Taverne Oasis in Groningen closed.

Temporary Closures

Caza in Tilburg is temporarily closed.

Mississippi in Maastricht (a boat) is temporarily closed because low water levels in the Maas river have left it grounded. This may apply to neighbouring Smoky too.

Jamaica in Nijmegen is closed until January 24, 2025.

Disputed Closures

't Bunkertje in Arnhem is currently closed.

Stingray in Beverwijk has been closed since May 22 but is trying to reopen.

Moves

Sky and Skunk in Roermond have been closed and the plan is to replace them with new shop Skybox.

Galaxy in The Hague is moving from Weimarstraat to the Uithof. As far as I know, this hasn't happened yet.

Koffie & Dromen in Lelystad has moved a short distance to Noord Stationsweg 21.

Tourist Changes

I-criterion has been abolished in Goes. Foreigners are now welcome.

Still trying to confirm the situation at Coffeeshop 156. If anyone is around there and can check it out, I'd love to hear from you.

Updates:

Hope to have pictures of Aktama 2 soon.

cannabisindustrie.nl, a useful source of coffeeshop news, says Caza is open again and Mississippi hopes to be back in a couple of weeks.

I’m over in early January Lem and will happily get a photo or two for the directory if it’s still needed as January feels like a lifetime away :(.

Another one.

Looks like De Keeper in Amsterdam has been taken over by SuperFly.

Can confirm, De Keeper is now a SuperFly so they're now a chain of 3 shops.

I've recently updated the maps to show SWED, The Hit, Aktama 2 and SuperFly.

Also added a QR code sticker to the merch store.

The menus of the Super Fly Coffeeshops look very similar to Coffeeshop Easy Times. Maybe Super Fly and Easy Times have same owners now.
