Strip cards to be 30 cents dearer
31 August 2007
AMSTERDAM – State secretary for transport Tineke Huizinga told Parliament on Thursday that city and regional transport fares would rise less sharply in 2008 than in the past. A strip card will become on average 2.5 percent more expensive, rather than 3.1 percent, the Volkskrant reports on its website.
Parliament raised objections earlier on to the price hike announced in June, which was double the price increase effected this year (1.6 percent).
Socialist SP and green-left GroenLinks did not want the increase to exceed inflation. An increase of 2.5 percent is in keeping with developments in costs, Huizinga said.
The 45 strip card (full fare) will cost EUR 20.40 in future, rather than EUR 20.70, as had been initially proposed. Passengers currently have to pay EUR 20.10.
