Rijsttafel means "rice table" in Dutch....it is a type of mini buffet Indonesian style which there are plenty of restaurants of that type in Amsterdam...

You won't get them on the same scale as the US, as the people and portions are smaller.

So our all-you-can-eat buffets just aren't big enough over this side of the pond?

I love Americans, so no offence intended :!:

But that is pretty funny. 8)

I've never had an all you can eat buffet over seas. :? Hmm, make note to self. I do love an English breakfast though and that ain't the healthiest of breakfasts. Maybe you guys just walk more or you've got more stairs.

Old thread but here's what I know.

I believe I saw and all-you-can-eat Chinese Lunch, maybe dinner too. It was a few addresses toward Central, from the Cornerhouse Hotel on NzVbwl.

This place I believe.

This was Spring 2007 so it answers the question, just a year and a half too late.

Mmmm.... all-you-can-eat!

My friends know me as "Dave The Buffet Slayer" as I have a tendency to destroy everything in my path!

There's one or two all-you-can-eat chinese's down on Zeedijk - but for the life of me I can't remember the names...

I think the first one I came across (coming from the Station side) was an absolute dive - it was quite big inside, with the servery slap bang in the middle of the place - I went in with a friend to take a look, but the "food" they had on show looked so un-appetising, we smartly turned about and carried on down the road.

The next one was a tiny little place, with the food displayed in the window, almost, as you walk in on the right hand side... The eating area was up two or three stairs, and the kitchen seemed to be down a rickety little staircase on the right. Some of the dishes looked a little, umm, strange - unable to actually identify some of these dishes, I stuck with what I know - chicken and rice. These two staples were demolished at a fair old rate - I was waiting for the chicken dish to be refilled everytime, and then ransacked the servery until I could manage no more.

My good, good friend who is coming with me in September tried this place with his wife one time without me and his missus didn't really like the place - I think because she didn't know what half the stuff was, and thought me a little weird for raving about the place.

All I know is that the stuff I actually ate was great. The setting wasn't spectacular and the service was all-but-non-existent, but it ticked all the right boxes for me... Cheap as hell, and all-you-can-eat!

There were two options for dining - you could do a takeaway (they must weigh the portion after you select what you want, as it stated a fixed amount on the sign), or sit and eat (I think they had a 1 hour limit) - plenty for the "Buffet Slayer".

There were a few other places I can indistinctly recall, but after finding the Lemongrass Wok and the other WTW type places, I generally either go for the nice quick healthy noodles route, or blitz my way through a buffet and waddle around Amsterdam until it all settles....

Service is WAY different than in the states!!!!
they are in no way in a hurry to get you out, like they do here.....I've even been in rest's here that turn the thermostat down so cold that your food is almost cold when you get it !!! just to get you out and another one in!
I LOVE the service in the dam.....no rush !!!!!!!
If you are inistant, they WILLL comp;ly...and if you just head out the door, your charge will be in your hand before the knob is !
Thanks For Playing !
