Hello people. It seems to be mostly working then. Great to see you again.
"Slimline" (owner of Localinet, where the forum is hosted) has had a very rough few months. While he was in hospital the old server was shut down. Despite this, he has now kindly installed the forum software on another server and given it the same domain name as before. We have restored a backup of the forum data into this.
There are a couple of technical problems. Firstly, all avatars stored on the old server are lost so, if your avatar was there, you'll need to upload it again. Secondly, we are now using a newer version of the forum software (phpBB). This has some new database elements that weren't in the backup. As a result there may be some error messages when the programs try to access non-existent table columns. I can add these columns but have to guess the data types so weird things may happen if I get them wrong.
I've learned a lot about the insides of phpBB over the past couple of days but, if you know more about it, particularly its database structures, and can help, please get in touch.

Hi Lemming... nice to see this place alive and kick once again...
Best wishes to Slimline.
I have some knowledge on forums and how they work so, if there is anything I can do to help or any questions you have on tech issues, please do ask. I'd be more than happy to help where possible.
peace

Hi Rez
We have upgraded from around version 2.0.13 to about 2.0.22, which has a slightly more sophisticated database. For instance, the table "phpbb_search_results" has a new column called "search_time". I've added a column of type "timestamp", which sounds appropriate but I've got no way of checking whether this is correct. The error has gone away but, if I've got it wrong, strange things may happen in the future.
If you have a recent version and can tell me what the type of this column should be that would be really helpful.

It's nice to have the forum back and to hear from all of you. I must admit, I did consider not resurrecting it, even if the opportunity arose. I'm conscious of the fact that there are lots of forums about, whereas the ACD is a unique resource. Nevertheless, the ACD with its own forum is even more useful. I'm touched that you missed this forum and hope to see you in our favourite city soon.
