High-speed train set to go in Sept
Sept 02/04/2008
The train service between Amsterdam and Rotterdam will be launched at end of September, says transport minister.
THE HAGUE - Transport minister Camiel Eurlings has informed parliament that the high-speed rail service (HSL) between Amsterdam and Rotterdam will come into operation at the end of September.
This is the first time a definite date has been set.
However, Eurlings warns that the launch may in fact be delayed by one or two months. Initially the trains will not travel at speeds above 160kmh.
The minister also says it is likely to be a year before the HSL between Rotterdam and Antwerp is ready for use. The last target date mentioned was October this year.
The launch of the HSL service has already been postponed several times, mainly due to problems with the safety system.
