Just realised this is an old article from last year, the search said 11 hours ago!! oops... Still interesting reading anyway.

To say weed is stronger now is just a misnoma, anyone who understands a bit of THC biology and genetics knows this for fact.

And the oxymoron is the fact that these people cling onto the fact that the dealers/growers are unscrupulous fiends and criminals out for your money..... if that was the case my friend why in holy hell would they be selling you better gear when the could sell you more, lesser quality weed... which is what they do with every other drug in history with the exception of LSD.

Not to undermine your point DrGONZO, but there are people out there that bulk out thier weed but spraying it with all sorts of crap including powdered glass and there is also the infamous soap bar which can be filled out with alsorts of crap, just to add weight.

yes at least here in NY, back in the day i had experiences with chemmy weed that was sprayed, but my guy was a lowlife dealer so who knows. but since then my contacts improved and it was never an issue, i guess maybe it depends who u deal with

people have you noticed that the powers that be never ask people that actually know about the subject?....to eliminate the dealers they should allow adults to grow their own supply...no more scum dealers and no more contamination!!!!!.......it's worked in holland why not the uk?surely there must be a legal view as we're "all in europe"and are legislated from brussels....it's like the hypocrasy of business being able to grow for commercial gain and royalty being able to grow in the u.k. but not the common person...uk govt are liars,cheats and theives

As an old British smoker this is my experience of how cannabis has changed over the past 25 years or so:

In the 70s and 80s homegrown grass was the lowest grade. It was grown outdoors from seeds picked out of imported grass. The varieties were not optimised for the northern European climate so they never flowered. A carrier bag full of these leaves could be acquired for about a fiver (£5).

Quality cannabis in those days was always imported and was mostly hashish. People like Howard Marks brought in hash from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Lebanon and Morocco. There was also occasional grass from Thailand and southern Africa. This stuff was good and very potent. It typically cost around £20 per quarter ounce.

During the 80s inflation applied itself to hash and prices rose to £24 per quarter and beyond. Then some cheaper non-descript hash began to appear. This seemed to resist inflation and actually decreased in price into the 90s. It was plentiful and took over the market. This is the dreaded "soapbar", an unwholesome concoction that might contain a bit of low grade Moroccan hash amongst other oils and noxious substances.

Whereas the high-grade hash of an early period had been imported by people who were into smoking it, the industry behind soapbar is only interested in money.

Parallel to the rise of soapbar was a rise in the use of specially bred seeds and lights to grow high-grade grass here in the UK. Small-scale hobby growers could smoke buds rather than soapbar. Any excess might find it's way onto the market but commanded a high price. Over time this new form of homegrown became more plentiful and acquired the generic name "skunk" (regardless of actual strain).

The media talk of organised criminals growing this skunk but in reality the criminals are too busy selling soapbar and hard drugs to find time for gardening.
