Having now visited many of the shops in the Dam, I find Nes one of the best. The atmosphere was friendly and helpful. I went one night and the female budtender tried to get me to buy something weak, She saw a middleaged hippie revisiting his youth. I told her no thanks and bought a g of White Widow. Great stuff.

The best part of Nes was DC. Having someone from the forum to talk to half way across the world makes you feel right at home.

Beer and booze was good, weed and hash fntastic and vibes very good.

Was the female 'tender a sort of blonde haired girl? I went to Nes on a couple of nights when she was on and I was only there for a couple of beers to start the night off as it was pretty much next door to my hotel.

There was an older guy mingling with the customers and I saw the girl talking to him. Next thing I know the guy is up asking me all sorts of questions like who are you and what are you doing here and basically was trying to tell me that Nes isn't a pub and if you only want to drink then go somewhere else.

Okay those weren't his exact words but I got the distinct impression that the girl behind the bar had put the guy on to me because I wasn't buying any weed.

I never had this problem with any of the other staff that I met (Dan, Simon, Linda, DC).

Maybe she just didn't like the look of me. I was in there all smartly dressed with the shirt and the trousers on and it was obvious that I wasn't going to be smoking the night away.

If it was her who you met then she is definitely worth watching.

I think I know who you'll be talking about but I suppose they have to try and catch people out with some weaker stuff every now and then if the person goes in and doesn't really know what they are looking for.

Take this forum for example, hundreds of posts keeping people pretty much up to date and what's hot and where it's at, so you'll get people going up to the counter and asking for the stuff by name and that's that badda bing.

So when you get the customers who come in and ask the dealer for his or her recommendations, then it makes good sense to talk up the weaker stuff just to get rid of it.

I don't know how long shops hold on to stock that isn't selling but the fact that they buy it in the first place makes it all the more important to sell as much of it as possible to unsuspecting customers.

They are not being nasty, it's just business and who knows, the weaker stuff might not be too bad at all anyway.

Doog, dunno what went on there...not sure if it happened the way you perhaps remember it happened. 1. cos all the staff know if they have a problem with anybody in the shop, it's up to them to sort it out....and we do 2. It just isn't our way to try and tell somebody it isn't a bar, when clearly (from all the alcohol sitting around).....it is. 3. cos the staff member in question only works 1 night a week. So, perhaps a wee piece of advice for the next time. If yer standing in what is clearly a bar and somebody tells you it isn't, ask 'Who the fuk are you?' 8)

Doc, nice meeting you and the missus..."She saw a middleaged hippie revisiting his youth. I told her no thanks and bought a g of White Widow. Great stuff." .....we don't sell white widow!.

 Woah Doc, looks like you've had too much of the good stuff elsewhere and the what's and from where's have got themselves all mixed up in the resulting haze. Easily done though if you buy and smoke enough

The guy who talked to me looked and sounded like he was the manager/or VERY well known to everyone in the shop. The last thing anyone on their own in Amsterdam should do is upset anyone, especially somebody like me who can't fight or run.

Can't wait to visit the Nes in June. Liked the website and I've heard nothing but good things about it. Not just from the boards but also friends that have gone. They were there over New Years
By the way Spock returns the the big screen. The new Star Trek movie will be Spock and Kirk meeting at Starfleet Academy. Spock in college, how funny is that?

Would be absolutely hillarious if it was Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner who were playing them once again. Personally I think the whole Star Trek franchise has been dragged through the mud since the original series ended.

I didn't even like any of the movies starring the original crew (movies started 11 years after the original series ended. Far too long) and don't even start me on Next Generation and all the other wastes of money that followed.

Captain Kirk is King. Live long and prosper.

Apparently William Shatner HATES Star Trek nowadays and how he can't escape the fact that people only remember him for a role that he played almost forty years ago.

If you saw TJ Hooker in the Eighties, then you would understand why people tend to remember Star Trek!

TJ Hooker is a great cup of cheese.
I think he's on Boston Legal or some such show now.
The movie is going to be directed by the same cat that directed Mission Impossible 3, sounds like a dvd to rip.

I'm not a mad trekkie fan, but ya just can't mistake a spock salute when it comes across a bar to ya.

...in sayin that though, ya can't diss the Next generation series, without them there'd be no Borg, which in turn means no 7 of 9...which is self explanitory, no holodeck (who wouldn't want one of these) and Patrick Stewart that plays Captain Picard is such quality it's actually like gettin a brain surgeon to treat measles. Makes a change from the old "Ok Spock, set your phazer to stun and fire it at the dilythium crystals....Do you think that is logical Captain, what makes you think it will work?.........Well it worked last week, didn't it?!"......but give me 'Blake 7' anyday!. 8)

For Valen's sake, did no-one watch Babylon 5? Better than all Trek iterations in my book, although DS9 runs it close.

I also "highly" recommend Deadwood, Firefly and Carnivale to any serious series watchers out there. Especially Deadwood - it rocks.
