Trains leave every 15-20 minutes 3.60e for a single journey.

You really cant miss it, the Train Station is part of the Airport.

Dead easy mate, (even i can do it) :)

Dunno about the Shuttle - never used it.

I use the train or the shuttle depending on where I'm staying, the shuttle has a set number of hotels it goes to but they dont have a problem letting you buy a ticket and jumping out at any of those hotels, I'm staying over in the east side of the zoo this trip so I'll probably get the train then a tram or bus to my boat.

Ditto.

On my first trip to Amsterdam I bused from London. The receptionist at my hotel told me that a taxi to Schipol was 60 to 80 Euros. Bullshit. Being strapped for cash, she told me it was way cheaper to take the train (3.50 + as axeman says).

There's a red vending machine at the station to buy the ticket. Its in Dutch, but if you're patient, its not that hard to figure out. Just look for Schipol - Centraal Station, or Centraal Station- Schipol depending on which way you're going.

Just make sure you get on the right train. I hear that the penalty is 50 - 100 E, no exceptions. Defeats the purpose of saving by not using taxis.

20 minutes, boom, you're where you need to be -- nice, safe ride.

http://webdemo.ns.nl/webdemo.e2000/ - Online demo of the ticket machine, nice to practise on if you aren't 100% sure what you're doing, worth mentioning that the vending machine only takes coins/cards (never got any of our cards to work though) and the ticket counter charge you an extra euro for tickets.
