I had this problem last time I flew into Schiphol... forgot the coins for the ticket machine so had to buy a coffee to get the change.
As far as I know you are charged a 0.50c chrage for buying your ticket from a person rather than a machine. Whenever I've bought tickets to Eindhoven I've got them to do it for me, as that way I know its right.

so if i want 2, single, full fare second class tickets from Schiphol to Centraal Station, that site says it would cost 26.40 Euro, is that right? doesnt seem so since you all say its only a few euros, so what did i do wrong?Boner wrote:http://webdemo.ns.nl/webdemo.e2000/ - Online demo of the ticket machine, nice to practise on if you aren't 100% sure what you're doing, worth mentioning that the vending machine only takes coins/cards (never got any of our cards to work though) and the ticket counter charge you an extra euro for tickets.Johnny J wrote:There's a red vending machine at the station to buy the ticket. Its in Dutch, but if you're patient, its not that hard to figure out. Just look for Schipol - Centraal Station, or Centraal Station- Schipol depending on which way you're going.

Dunno what you did wrong, but it is definitely around €3,60 each, + 50c extra if you pay at the desk rather than machines...the lines are often long, but they move quickly. People always stress about getting into town, but it's almost foolproof. If in doubt, ask the nearest Dutch looking person (ie anyone who is not carrying a triangular Van Gogh Museum poster-holder), I guarantee that they will help you out.NirvanaEJ wrote:so if i want 2, single, full fare second class tickets from Schiphol to Centraal Station, that site says it would cost 26.40 Euro, is that right? doesnt seem so since you all say its only a few euros, so what did i do wrong?Boner wrote:http://webdemo.ns.nl/webdemo.e2000/ - Online demo of the ticket machine, nice to practise on if you aren't 100% sure what you're doing, worth mentioning that the vending machine only takes coins/cards (never got any of our cards to work though) and the ticket counter charge you an extra euro for tickets.Johnny J wrote:There's a red vending machine at the station to buy the ticket. Its cool bro, i never stressed bec i just hopped on an airport shuttle, i found that pretty simple, you just buy a ticket from the agent in front of the buses (right outside of arrivals) or the driver. so i guess ill stick with that. lol about the Van Gogh thing, it was me carrying that poster holder a few years ago.Dunno what you did wrong, but it is definitely around €3,60 each, + 50c extra if you pay at the desk rather than machines...the lines are often long, but they move quickly. The option starts you off from Rotterdam. You will need change this to state where your journey begins i.e. - Schiphol. and the Destination - Amsterdam CentraalNirvanaEJ wrote:
