A Good Breakfast anyone?

Post by axeman9 »

I was wondering if any of you guys have any ideas as to where i could get a breakfast in Amsterdam? I got plenty of places for evening meals etc but no-where for a good brekkie.

Either traditional English (bacon, eggs, etc)

Or

Traditional European i.e. Croissant, ham, cheese, orange juice, etc

Any ideas greatly appreciated :P

Heard some good things about a place called Big Shots cafe on Warmoesstraat on the other side of the road from The Winston... Will be testing this place out on my next visit, as Barney's seems to be getting busier and busier and is still quite expensive for what is essentially just a fry-up...

Don't get me wrong though - Barney's is probably still one of the few places where you can get a smoke AND eat a nice greasy fry-up at the same time, but it's still a bit further out if you have serious morning munchie attacks and your hotel is quite central!

There was a little dutch place I stumbled into near the Oude Kerk on Oudezijds Voorburgwal a few years back, but for the life of me, I can't remember any more than that! It was just a little cafe type place, but the food was cheap and freshly made. There's quite a few of these small dutch cafes which are fantastic if you're prepared to try something a little different to the old greasy spoon type stuff.

Pancakes. Yes, pancakes - few things are finer than a nice plate of fresh pancakes first thing in the morning. I seem to remember pancakes involved in that historic breakfast session - ahh, it's all coming back now... No, wait... it's gone again.

But there were definitely pancakes!
