Good places to find a ferry (uk to dam)
Stena line from Harwich to Hook Van Holland, if your travelling on foot there (certianly used to be) a ticket that takes you from London Liverpool Street point to any Dutch train station, the train company has changed names a few times since then but check out National Express East Anglia.
It used to be good about 6 years ago but I foind its often cheaper to fly now. The catamaran used to take 3 hours 40 min but I heard its gone back to regular ferry, so probably about 6 - 7 hours on the boat.

DFDS Ferrys leave Newcastle port every day and it takes 15-16 hours to get to Ijmiuden . Coach then takes you to Amsterdam city centre, its the reverse of this on the way home !!
Decent enough ferrys but by the time you add up your cabin, food etc it can be expensive, because I am the worlds biggest aerophobe, this is the best way for me to get to the hallowed land of the Dam.
If you like to to sleep in your cabin NEVER EVER sail on the Friday afternoon sailing ..... its too full of drunks making a noise right thru the night.
