I've just deleted thousands of probably spam memberships. For those familiar with SQL, this is the query I used to mark the users:
UPDATE phpbb_users
SET user_website = "spam to delete"
WHERE user_website <> "" AND user_active = 0 AND user_posts = 0;
I then deleted all marked with:
DELETE FROM phpbb_users
WHERE user_website = "spam to delete";
It's a bit nerve racking executing these destructive commands. If I've accidentally zapped your website or account please let me know.
De-spam
I recall the days when I dabbled with chat boards like this and dodgy memberships etc. That of cause was only small scale, but a pain all the same. So I can get a basic idea of the nightmare you have to deal with and the time and work involved!.
I hope you dont get the "Invasion Of The Spam E-mailers" blocking the server and therefor access and speeds like a few of us on a private(ish) server used to!!!!!.
Anyways I for 1, even only having the most basic understanding, can be greatfull for the time and efforts you must need to dedicate to this place.
The fact that it seems to run smoothly in the short time I've been here says a lot.

I did notice that thousands had been deleted. Nice job!Lemming wrote:It worked in that it removed thousands of spammers that had built up over years. That doesn't stop new ones though.
