UK: Teachers to get powers to search pupils for drugs and a

I very much doubt they would get a criminal record for possession of drugs or weapons if the people preventing them from taking them to school in the first place do their job properly.

If I knew that I would be possibly searched for such things when I was at school, then there would be no way I would be tempted to take them there.

The only illegal activities I undertook at school was underage drinking - but NEVER while I was actually at school. I even used to bump into some of my teachers down the pub - most were ok so long as I was discreet about it.

Some of my mates got so brazen that they would nip off to the local at lunchtime for a quick pint - until they were caught in there wearing their school uniforms - doh!

If you take the view that their civil liberties are being infringed by being searched, please just remember this... THEY ARE AT SCHOOL. If you'd rather see your children skipping class, stealing cars or setting fire to tramps, then don't send them in the first place. But please don't bleat about how these children are having their personal rights removed.

What does the law say about adults carrying such things? It's still illegal right? Now I would agree that adults shouldn't necessarily be stopped and searched without good cause - THAT would be an invasion of privacy for sure, but these kids are underage. Hell, they shouldn't be drinking or smoking cigarettes either, but placing a security guard at the school gates can only be a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Safety for your kids or allowing knives, guns and drugs into the classroom? Is it really that hard a choice to make?
