Fake guns are banned in the Netherlands and travellers caught having one risk a EUR 150 fine.
THE NETHERLANDS - Dutch border police are warning holidaymakers not to bring back fake guns from southern Europe.
Police seized nearly 900 fake guns in the first six months of 2008, nearly as many as in the whole of 2007. They are banned in the Netherlands because they are often indistinguishable from real weapons.
However, they are freely available in most southern European countries. Many of these guns are used in computer games or as lighters.
Travellers caught carrying a fake gun risk a fine of EUR 150.
