I like you, Dude - but you fucking gave me a bum steer on Hotel Utopia. That place is fuckin' grim.

I snores, so I thought me and the ol' lady should have separate rooms the first 2 nites so she could get some sleep, like we does at home. I couldn't get two singles at the Old Quarter, so I felt comfortable based on my past experiences at Bulldog and Centrumhotel, and your recommendation, that there was a certain standard that A'dam backpacker type places adhered to, and we'd be happy.

That is the sorriest fuckin' outfit I've ever encountered. No heat! In below freezing weather. No toilet paper, no clean towels, just a filthy fuckin' dump! At 25 euros a single, I guess it was marginally better than a 22 euro bunk at the Globe, but Man, it was a huge disappointment! Breakfast wasn't for fuck - just a cold stale croissant and decent coffee or tea.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience at Utopia, Prof. I guess A`Dam is no different from any other city or tourist attraction, for every, say, handful of decent hotels/hostels there's always one complete toilet.

Also, I think the phrase "Each to their own" comes into play here. You can't blame Valo for the fact that you found Utopia awful, as a) he may have liked it there, & b) the standard of accomdation there might have been better when he stayed.

Personally, I could never stay anywhere dirt cheap as I'd be worried of, like you, cold & dirty rooms, or even worse, having to share a dorm with a bunch of strange backpackers, auld JSB needs his privacy & comfort & doesn't mind paying extra for it! But like I said, each to their own.

But Prof, apart from Utopia, did you have a nice trip...?

You guys need to remove the images from your sigs, Lemming asked that users keep their sigs as text messages or links.

No, actually, Scoob was doing a good service trying to offer up options to people axing about cheap lodgings. And like JSB said, maybe he had a lot better experience.

We actually can laugh about the Utopia fiasco now, and it didn't keep us from having fun. It was right handy to Homegrown Fantasy, Grey Area, and Amnesia, which we got to visit for the first time, and a great beercafe called Wildemann a few blocks away. Saturday turned out sunny and nice, and we managed the canal cruise and a couple hours at the Van Gogh, lots of walking and sightseeing. And we stayed in some really good hotels the rest of the trip. I felt a duty to my public to expose Utopia for the dive it truly is.

Apologies again to Valo, and who can stay mad at a guy that looks like Scooberu.

I think an exception to the cheap and crappy rule is the Hotel Cornerhouse which is very near Dam Square. Singles run about EUR 26 and doubles about twice that. There's no breakfast though.

I had a similar experience as Professor. The Utopia is a hell-hole. Lucky I only had to put up with it for 2 nights before changing hotels. I also concur with Larry on the hotel cornerhouse. I have stayed there in different rooms and always got a large clean room, good people-watching view, and a great bar downstairs. Never said a word about my smoking.

You know JSB, based on prior posts of yours I have thought you to be a fool, but until now I didn't think you were an asshole as well. I stand corrected. Go figure.

And, btw, being here longer doesn't give you the right to be a prick, nor does it give you the right to do as you please until you yourself are directly addressed by Lemming on something he addressed just over a month ago.

Excuse me stygian, don`t mind if I butt in now that you`ve suddenly become abusive but me and JSB are far more worthwhile members of the forum than u. For example how many people on here have u hooked up with quality mary jane. I think if it comes 2 a vote youre the one whose gonna be drastically outnumbered my friend. All u need 2 do is check out the large number of PM`s we`ve recieved from people who we`ve directed 2 a safe and cheap place 2 buy dutch quality weed and hash on the web. Compared 2 us youre an insignificant member of the forum and if u read through other posts you`ll see that other members have had rather large sigs 4 a while and they havent been victimised by u or any1 else. Like JSB said if Lemming asks us 2 remove them we will but we won`t remove them just because some1 whose been here 5 minutes takes exception 2 them. Excuse me? You say it's supposed to be smoker friendly in the same breath as you say I have psychological problems? Not only that I was not rude or out of line by saying you two should get rid of your pics in your sigs, as just a month ago Lemming made the same request from another user. I then get a reply from JSB that is hardly friendly. But I am the one with the problem? You both then say because you have been here a few months longer you somehow are more important than any user who came after you? Get over yourselves.

And I don`t think I`m more important just because I`ve been here a few months more that u but the fact is we`ve helped a lot of people out on this forum who have been dry for years, so therefore we have contributed something 2 the forum and like 2 help people.I`ve never seen this message about sigs from Lemming but like I said if he asks us we`ll remove them. They`re not offensive or rude so theyre not really a problem. Bro. Whatever. I called him an asshole because of his tone and how he responded to me. Anyone who talks to someone else like that without provocation IS an asshole. I was not the first person to be rude, and my rudeness was in direct reply to his remarks. I am not a five year old to be talked down to when my initial post made no call for such a response. Further, you then attacked my mental health when I never even addressed you. If he doesn't like how I reacted then perhaps he shouldn't have been obnoxious to begin with. My initial post did not call for his response in the least. No matter how you try to dress it up, you both are in the wrong. Just because you helped an old lady cross the street earlier in the day doesn't mean you can mug a child that evening... your earlier behavior does not excuse your immediate behavior. Period.

And as for the whole thing about the pic sigs, I could give a flying f-ck. I do however have a problem with how I was replied to. I wasn't complaining or whining or ratting or any of the bs you two have been trying to say. I was simply stating that earlier Lemming had requested sigs not be pictures. I was not malicious in how I said it and I didn't demand they be removed. Grow up, and in your own words go smoke a joint and chill out. And while you are both at it, work on your manners, they are piss poor.

It’s true that I did once ask a member to remove an image from a signature. In that case it was an advert and link to another (albeit very good) website. I didn’t remove it but politely suggested that it might be a bit greedy to repeat it on every post. I said that one occurrence of the image in the body of a post and a text link in the signature might be more reasonable.
I don’t have a strong opinion on this issue and prefer not to dictate. The one thing that I don’t like to see, though, is members being rude to each other. It’s your forum and you generally keep an extraordinarily good vibe going. It saddens me when I see all the friendship occasionally break down.
On the subject of images in signatures, I think I’ll start a new topic in Site News and canvass opinion.

Thanks for being the voice of reason, Lemming. Stygian, the moderator here doesn't have a problem with images in sigs providing it's not blatant advertising (which mine & Tom's aren't), the man himself just said so. So hopefully, unless the general consensus at the ACD is that there should be text-only sigs, you should no longer have a problem with it.

If I seemed a trifle rude when I first responded. I apologise. But I won't take back the fact that I think you were deliberately causing trouble for no good reason. I mean, why should you care about my sig? I guess being labelled "the classroom snitch" hit a nerve, but dammit, friend, just read back what you wrote & then think for a minute how pointless, spineless & ineffectual you came across here. If that wasn't your intention, that's cool, it just seems that way to me, but why try & make Tom & I look small by saying that in such a pompous way in a totally WAY off-topic thread. Least you could have done was PM me or Tom if you felt THAT strongly about the sigs.

That's all, I don't wanna carry on this argument any longer, can we just all get back to talking about Amsterdam & it's coffeeshops? One more thing tho', Styg, you've proved yourself to be a bit two-faced by complaining about my rudeness to you, then calling me a fool. Not cool, my friend. Why am I a fool?
