Images in Signatures

Post by Lemming »

I once asked a member to remove a banner link from a signature. Repeating an advertising picture on every post struck me as a bit greedy. Including the image once in the body of a post and a text link in the signature seemed more reasonable to me.

Avatars are fun and using images in signatures is really just a back door method of adding a second, bigger, avatar. On balance, I find the repetition of such images a bit boring and it makes the pages longer. What do you think? Should such images be encouraged or discouraged?

Avatar sizes on this site are pretty generous - Boner's animated rocker is great for example, as is the guy with the animated bong (spliffmaster?). That's got to be enough for most - but fair play to Lemming for not weighing in like "The Headmaster" in the JSB / Stygian 23 debate. Two great posters with a diff of opinion - oh dear! Gonna change my avatar when I get back from the Dam! Maybe leaving historical avatars on old posts (they update when you change them) would let people post the images they want. I like the way this site doesn't give stars / ratings (Uber-Jedi-super-moderator-dude!!!) for lots of posts, but maybe you could reward big posters with their own (image-rich) pages, like they were coffeeshops - Valo, Boner, JSB, Doody & yourself, Lemming, have taught me so much about Amsterdam, and my friends think I'm the big-time expert.
2 maybes...
So I voted "Bad".
Sorry JSB

I dont think we need signature pictures, I actually like reading the line of text that some members have as a signature, plus the more pictures there are on a page the more messier it starts to look.

first time you see one it's ok but they really do get a bit boring after awhile especially when there is maybe just one or two lines posted by the member and then there is the same old HUGE pic in the signature dwarfing everything else on the page.

guess I will have to vote discourage or at least keep the size of them more in line with the size of our avatars

Yeah I see every1s point about the sigs. JSB put mine on as my computer skills are basic, but I`ll get him 2 take it off when he comes over later. Just thought it would be nice 2 have the citys football team and my fave European team as a sig. I collect Ajax memorabillia and only put it up 2 celebrate their progression in the champions league. I didn`t think it would cause a stir 2 be honest, at least mine was relevent 2 the ACD forum. It will be gone later today.

I voted 'Good', obviously, & will no doubt be the only person to do so, but I agree with Biker about allowing small image sigs that are around the same size as one's avatar. Until then, I will remove my ECW sig poste-haste, as I don't want a certain someone crying into his computer monitor every day he visits here, blubbering over the offensiveness of it all. :?
