International airports in fuel slowdown
11th August, 2008
International Airports are feeling the pinch from the global economic slowdown.
With airlines cutting flights under the pressure of rising fuel costs, fewer passengers are arriving at airports, meaning less money for airport parking and food concessions.
US airports are especially feeling the strain after years of growth, delaying capital projects and considering increases in everything from landing fees to parking.
Minor airports at Cincinnati, Cleveland, Houston, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Oakland, California And Columbus, Ohio expected to lose more than 10 percent of their scheduled service later this year as airlines eliminate flights.
Most U.S. airlines are cutting flights after the heavy summer travel season to reduce costs and drive up fares.
