A national campaign Stay Out of the Blind Spot launched Thursday hopes to alert cyclists to the danger of blind spot collisions.
THE NETHERLANDS -- The transport ministry launches a national campaign Thursday to alert cyclists to the danger of blind spot collisions.
The campaign Stay Out of the Blind Spot, is aimed at cyclists and intends to reduce the number of collisions between lorries and cyclists. In the past two years, 33 people have been killed in such accidents.
The introduction of compulsory blind spot mirrors for lorries has proved to be unsuccessful in reducing traffic accidents.
The campaign will be officially launched in Amsterdam, where a lorry with an illuminated blind spot will be on display to show cyclists the limits of the field of vision drivers have when seated behind the wheel.
