A cannabis legalisation campaigner was today found guilty of possessing and cultivating the drug.

It took a jury at Cardiff Crown Court just under 25 minutes to return the unanimous verdicts on Neil Morgan, who claimed he was fighting for 'the right to exist'.

During a two-day trial, the 53-year-old told the court he had been growing cannabis for 30 years, and that this was the 15th time he had appeared in court charged with such offences.

Morgan, of Heol Tawe, Ystradgynlais, South Wales, denied two charges of possessing cannabis and two charges of cultivating the Class C drug, but was found guilty of all offences.

Morgan, who represented himself, told the jury during the trial: 'You are all aware of the fact I grow cannabis, there is no doubt about that. I have to accept in law that I am guilty on that point.

'I'm fighting for the right to exist, no more than that.

'I'm not interfering with anyone's existence at all, I keep myself to myself and live quietly and peacefully.

Judge Philip Richards told the jury in summing up: 'We cannot live in a society where everyone is free to say: "My view is that the law is irrational".

In police interviews, Morgan said all of the cannabis seized was for his personal use. He was released on bail and will be sentenced on September 24.

If a licensed retailer of alcohol is caught selling the killer drug to under- 18's they get permission to do it again. Only on a second offence is any action taken. It is incredibly rare for an alcohol pusher to lose their license.
If a driver breaks the Law, perhaps endangering life by speeding, they get permission to do it again. I think you need to be caught speeding 4 times before there is any risk your driving priviledges might be taken away temporarily.
The Judge may technically be right. But in practice, many illegal things which actively harm or threaten third parties are tolerated as officialdom turns a blind eye.
I don't understand why the powerful are so threatened by our wonderful herb, why they hate it and us so much, that they actually prefer the sight of children as roadkill, or children in hospital with acute alcoholic liver disease.
But I doubt the Judge will enlighten us on that. More likely he'll speed home in his chauffeur- driven Jag and spend another evening with his strong drink.

What??? Even if the law is irrational?

Where the ^&*^ do they get people like him from? I'm actually almost fuming (and not in the good French way either) about that particular quote - from someone we're meant to have faith in as being in a well-regarded position within the legal system.

'WE CANNOT LIVE IN A SOCIETY WHERE EVERYONE IS FREE TO SAY.............' ??????

Well, cut out our 'king tongues at birth then, you senile ....... (rest of post can just be considered ranting and has been self-censored)
