Brewers unhappy with tax increase on beer

Government plans to raise the tax on beer by 30% from January 2009 could have a disastrous affect, Dutch brewers say in Thursday's FD.

The government hopes the rise will help discourage youngsters and problem drinkers from buying beer.

However, the central brewery office CBK says the tax rise will hit average drinkers, coming on top of rising prices for grain, hops, energy and transport.

It's always the responsable innocent drinkers that have to foot the bill in the way of higher beer taxes to pay for a governments failure to deal with there social problems.

Higher taxes will NEVER work as it never has here in the UK and we have 1 of the highest beer\alcohol taxes in Europe.

all higher taxes,smoking bans and other laws similar do is close bars/restaurants......weatherspoons(pub chain) were the 1st to implement the ban.....now they are crying because trade is down by at least 30%...........the only winners have been the supermarkets as many people drink at home now instead of going to a place that doesn't welcome them and forces them to stand outside in the rain and cold....what a nice way to treat pensionners that may even served their country.......and all the time all that was needed wasd a seperate area for smokers/non smokers....i know i've strayed with this buts it's all interlinked...just check uk pub closures

Ya gotta love that line, raise the age limit to 18 ffs. It's also Chris Rock's theory about the price of bullets put into poor practice, make a beer cost 40 euro and all those poor motherfukers will stay sober!.
